Default question about Carbon fiber hood

I was wondering , is fiber hood only for show or to reduce weight since the stock
hood is rather heavy ?
Thx

Weight reduction, though people sometimes get them just for the bling value.

i wonder what the ratio of weight reduction to bling factor is for purchasing of carbon fiber hoods.

i would bet its lopsided and leaning towards bling factor.......us weight reduction guys can never catch a break.

it's the equivalent of removing your spare tire, not worth $500 imo, but that's where the bling factor comes in

you know its done for the "Bling Bling Factor" when thats the only weight reduction on the whole car which is riding around on chrome 19's with 2 15"speakers in the trunk.

Yes, Weight Reduction is the main issue when switching to a c-f hood. But I think its arrogant to do so.. You dont want less weight on the front of the car knowing full well its a FWD vehicle. It does look good. But if going for pure performance, look into c-f trunk lids.. that saves you even more weight and is also at the rear of the vehicle

wrong

all that would do is promote more understeer

FWD vehicles have an extreme weight bias in the front of the car, reducing that bias will only help handling, braking and balance when matched with a rear sway and a properly matched set of struts/shocks and springs

50/50 is ideal, 60/40 is better than 65/35

I don't want to get into the FWD vs. RWD drag battle...but...

Give props to 1. Lisa Kubo in the FWD Saturn running 9's or so. 2, the 1200hp ECOTEC which is the sickness. I'm postive there are more, but those are the first 2 coming to mind.

no not really

If I'm guessing right you think more weight on the front wheels improves traction?

You can get traction without adding to the cars overall weight.

Yes, any weight reduction can improve times. The Stock hood can weight more the 40lbs, whereas a CF hood can weight about 9-11lbs.

well since i drive an accord, id have to do a ton more than just a cf hood to get it fairly light so for me it was mainly bling factor. i like the look of it and glad i went with it. (plus insurance basically paid for it so that helped )

ummm...it's quite a bit better than spare tire removal. At least mine was, and I only paid $300 for my QUALITY hood.

the price difference between a carbon fiber hood and stock hood are minimal.

As far as racing goes you need to check your rule books to see wether or not carbon fiber is illegal. For my series they are illegal. For some other foorms of racing it chages your classing.

Also a lot of organnizations require hood pins/locks on Carbon fiber hoods.

As far as putting mroe weight on the front end, well, like Nick said there are 100 things you can do to get the same traction without keeping that weight.
