Default b16a distributor.......

I searched for the b16a distributor and it seems like the dizzy for the b16a is a common problem.

The archives are unclear about what distributor to use. I was thinking about getting one on the internet, but I want a new one.

All of you guys that had a b16a and a fucked up dizzy what did you do?

Where would I be without Honda-Tech, again thanks for the help

A 90-91 integra LS distributor will work if you modify the mounting legs so you are only using 1 or 2 as opposed to the stock three legs. You can also have the distributor rebuilt but that can be costly.

Ist Gen B16 = OBD-O, 2nd Gen B16A = OBD-I... Not interchangeable. As for the distributor thing, I hear you can swap the guts from an 88-91 CRX Si distrobutor and be good to go.

He was being a smartass because there is no such thing as a 90-91 GSR, which you think exists.

Question for anyone........Is the problem with other DOHC VTEC distributors from different generations just the plugs for the wiring harness? And is the suggestion of using a 90-93 Teg LS distributor with one of the leggs chopped off, easiest because the harness plugs are the same? If that's the case, then why couldn't you just re-pin a DOHC VTEC dizzy? or does the OBD-0 vs. OBD-1/2 thing figure into this?

Anyone? Maybe I'm missing something?

if you have a d16 distributor lying around you can chop off one of the legs and use it...it wont time perfectly..but it works..ive been using one for over 6 months

90% of the time, you just need to change the cap and rotor..... the dizzy itself is usually good.

its not that the b16a had 'distributor problems' per se.... it's more like 'this engine has been sitting in a wharehouse/junkyard for HOW long?

Man you just have all the right answers! It's OBD-1, and only in 92-93.

You can use the internals from an si/hf or LS distributor, or rig one of them on like was mentioned. When switching internals though, the torx head screws like to snap so be careful.

I have a 90 LS distributor, and by modify I'm assuming you mean cut off one of the mounting legs. The VTEC solenoid is in the way of one of the mounting legs when I try to mount the dizzy. Please specify exactly what you mean by modify.

Also, can the 2 connectors on the dizzy be taken off the original mounting position?

Are they grounded

I just called Steve at HMO, whom I got the motor from, to replace the dizzy and he said he has to "review my order and to call him back and he said he'll see what he can do". He better replace that ****, or he'll find out the power of word of mouth
