Help with brake drums! Won't come off...
4th Gen Accord EX 4dr - can't get the dang drums off... i can budge them about .25" but that's it?! Is there i'm not doing b4 that? Are there screws that i have to loosen first?!
Thx!
Thx!
There should be two holes in the drum facing the hub assembly. You need to TIGHTEN two 8 X 1.25 bolts in the holes. This will push the drum away from the hub.
If the holes aren't there, you have an aftermarket drum. You'll just have to work it off. It takes awhile...

I was wondering about those holes, i figured it was for that... anyways, i was told there is some kind of adjuster behind it that lets u adjust the internat adjuster so the brakes aren't making contact with the drum??
The thing is i can get it out about .25", then it gets stuck on the brakes... i think the brakes are holding it... i jus don't want to break it by forcing it out with the bolts... although this is what i plan on doing.
Any thoughts on this b4 i go get some bolts?
BTW: the emergency brakes are off... i laugh everytime i think about this.

not nessarly if you havent turned your drums in a long time they sometimes have a ridge on them and they get stuck coming off ... then you usually will destroy the hardware kit when removing it .... the best way is to break the 2 pins that hold the holddown spring in place and it will come apart after that ...
i hate drum brakes with a passion so good luck

I threaded it out... and the drums were about 1" away from the base already and was still stuck to the unit cause the damn brake shoes were holding the drums to the unit and i jus yanked that sucker out!
I bent the main big spring... guess i'll go get a new one... eveything seems okay... i hate drums!
I think imma sell this dang accord and move on...

It should take an hour or so. Do one side at a time just in case you forget how to put it back together. Buy the aftermarket brake hardware kit if you're going with aftermarket shoes. You will probably destroy the horse shoe clips when you remove the parking brake pivot.
If you go with the factory shoes, the horse shoe clips, hold down springs and retainers should be included.
How many miles do you have on this thing? Honda shoes last forever...
