cheap dx tranny or wait...
I can get a dx tranny for 50 bucks thats low miles and works great, should i go for that or should i just wait and get some more money and get an si trans? Is there really that huge of a difference. Either will be going on a boosted d15 with 185-190 hp if that matters..
i'd say stay with the dx trans. some people say that longer gears are better for boosted engines, others say that close ratios are always better. in any case, the only difference between the dx and si tranny's is the final drive. 1st- 5th gear are exactly the same. based on my experience, i'd say stay with the dx tranny if you're boosting it

There are more differences in the trannies than just the final drive. Yes the final drive is different, but if you pull the trannies apart and look at all the bearings and such, the dx tranny has MUCH smaller bearings than the si. Making the dx tranny a much weaker tranny. Now lets say you put a dx final drive into a SI tranny, you would have a beefy long geared transmission

I needed my si back on the road so I got a dx tranny and I was expecting my car to be considerably slower, but its still feels like an si. The longer gearing is a little strange since 3-5 seem a bit longer but since it just my daily commuter car with basic mods I'll live with it but for serious racers I would recommend the si or a zc or some hybrid version of our available trannys. Oh the better gas milage isn't bad either
