i have a 98 v6 sedan and my check engine light occasionally turns on. when i get it checked out at a local parts store, i get 1298 every time.
it turns out to be 'IDM Failure' but no one seems to know what that is. Someone from Honday did tell me that it has to do with the ELD circuit. Can someone give me a better idea on what i'm dealing with? Also if this is something serious?

very possible your alternator could be causing the problem, have the output checked on it,we have had a lot of problems with bad alts.

It probably is the alt.

If not, then you'll need to replace the underhood fusebox.
The ELD unit is part of the circuit in the fusebox.
