Default Mini Me, D16a w/ y8 head. Cam Gear / Timing belt question

I'm using a D16a6 bottom end, I have a y8 head w/ no cam gear. Would a 92-95 DX cam gear work and can I use the stock D16a6 timing belt (its new) or do i have to get an adjustable Cam gear and use a EX timing belt. Thanks for your time

The A6 belt will be too long. Don't even try running it with that because it will slip big time and cause major damage. I'm pretty sure the DX cam gear will work but you should get an adjustable one asap. Use the timing belt from whatever head you're using

running any other STOCK cam gear with the y8 head will throw off your cam timing quite a bit

use the same timing belt as your head

it will stilll be STRETCH getting it on

best bet is to get an adjustable gear and run a y8 belt

Yeah i know. I have you use the same belt as the head and I was mainley just asking about the cam gear. If it could be used until my STR cam gear comes in. I think it makes it 1/2 tooth off.. Is taht retard or advanced? I'm getting my head milled .030 and i know that will retard the cam also. about what degree advanced would put it back at '0' so i will know how much room i have to advance the cam. thanks u guys

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Typesi2nv &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I'm getting my head milled .030 and i know that will retard the cam also. about what degree advanced would put it back at '0' so i will know how much room i have to advance the cam.</TD></TR></TABLE>

general rule of thumb is for every 0.012" milled the cam timing gets retarded 1 degree...

so 2.5 degrees advanced = 0 with a 0.030" mill

3.4166666666 degrees advanced if using a Y8 head gasket also...cause that would be 0.041" total.
