Need Help Only Getting 150 Miles on a full tank of gas!!!
I have a 96 JDM ITR Complete Swap in my G3 Sedan. Running Spoon ECU. Yes I am driving hard however even so I should at least get 200 miles but I am only getting 150 miles off a full tank going into my reserve. Does anyone knows why?
Here is a list of my mod:
96 JDM ITR Complete swap
JDM 4-1 Header
Catco Hi-Flo Cat
Apexi N1 Cat
Apexi V-afc (but i have not messed with any of its settings)
AEM CAI
AEM FPR Setting is at 56psi
AEM Fuelrail
Spoon ECU
Skunk 2 Cam Gears Setting is at 0 degrees
Timing is not advanced either everything is stock.
I have also changed the spark plugs .
Please help this is very frustrating... TIA

even though you haven't messed with the timing, you should atleast check what your timing is at with a timing gun...your timing might just be retarded which would hurt your gas milage and your performance, it's worth checking out...
yea.. definately a problem.. i usually get about 260-300 now.. with 260 being a bov at every light and drivng hard boosting like crazy... I got 220 out of the last tank and I was crying when I saw that money going in the gas tank.. makes me wish my lead foot was lighter...
WOW!
150 is pretty bad. Since my buildup, I've been getting between 250-300 and that's driving pretty hard.
Make sure everything is in good shape: ignition, check timing, etc. Is your bumper totally black? Maybe you are running super-rich, and leaning on the VAFC can help mileage quite a bit. You need to be sure you're rich enough to be safe though...
What about your fuel filter? Do all the maintenance stuff to make sure there are no problems...

Teken,
My air filter is brand new.
My tire pressure is correct.
My brakes are aall clear with no binds.
My FPR setting is currently at 48psi is that a lot?
My V-AFC Setting is still default nothing has been messed with it at all. do you have any pointer for me to tweak it a little bit?
Thanks do you have any pointers and tips for me? Any is appreciated.
TIA

Teken,
The 48 psi is with the vacuum line attached.
I do have an a/f ratio meter but if you can could you please tell me what color wire it is that I need to connect the o2 sensor so i can double check? The reason why i ask is this. On the a/f meter it is currently at two spot one bar is right in the middle of stoich and teh other is at its max on rich. I cannot understand why it is doing this at all...
Here is another problem I am having in which I hope you can assist me. After reconnecting the O2 sensor on my idle is really poor. What is happening is this it will idle at 800 drop down to 600 and the goes back up to 800 and this process repeats itself whenever it is at idle. When I turn my a/c on the idle is at 1300 it drops all teh way down to 400-500 the engine shakes as if it is about to cut off and goes back to 1300 to slowly decrease again. And all this happened after I reconnected my O2 sensor on... It is very frustrating. I solved my check engine light but my idle is bad.
As for my fuel settings I really need to find a sol'n for this asap. I'm poor as is and pumping 20 in every 2 days is not helping me at all
Whenever i runmy car hard i do smell fuel afterwards but i cannot detect any leaks at all... However after i adjusted the FPR down to 48 psi with vacuum line attached I don;t smell it anymore.
Any suggestions on whatever else I can do?
Thanks Teken.

I just don't get on it all the time... i'm at a little less than 1/2 tank this morning and have about 200 miles on it since the fillup.
Shift at a reasonable rpm, don't hit that infamous vtec w/ turbo spinning and the fuel pressure shooting up from the fmu..and it should get decent gas mileage.
The only thing to change in my car other than the installation of all those parts, is the amount of pressure my foot puts on the gas pedal... other than that it drives , sorta, like a stock teg.... off boost of coarse..

I'm getting about 210 miles to a fill up of about 10 gallons, so like 21mpg give or take in either direction. So when you guys say you are getting above 250 to a tank, you're talking about using the full 13 gallons or so right? Or am I missing out on some gas milage and be worried?
Ok call me dumb but I simply do not understand what you mean by lowing it at .5 intervals. The FPR guage is by increments of 2.
My O2 sensor is from my 95 GSR Cat. The odometer on my car says 76537 miles
"Removing the vacuum line simulates WOT conditions"
When remove my FPR vacumm line the guage says 56psi when attached it is now saying 46 psi.
If i disconnect my o2 sensor the Idle is perfectly fine.. does thta mean my o2 sensor is bad?
Thanks Teken

i told you. the spoon computer doesnt even look at the O2 sensor.
It should be an open loop program and runs really rich all the time.

the phrase "wot, vacuum off, clamped" was confusing to me at first but not after you see someone demonstate it in one second. you rmv the vac line and fold it over. i was told that this is the "true fuel pressure." am i the only one who thinks you are set really high?? i am at 44-46 wot and 36 at idle (this means vac on/normal/untouched). i think you may need to come down below 50 wot with that set up, especially with spoon ecu.
SGT - i understand what you are trying to tell me about the ecu program, however right now I am trying to minimize my lost as much as possible.
So what is the setting that should I see on the FPR guage at idle? Is it 36? or 46? all i know is when it is at WOT my FPR guage goes up to 56...
Maybe it is just me but it seems like I don't have a clue on setting my FPR correectlyt form what everyone is telling me I am doing it incorrectly...
So let me type up what I assume is teh correct procedure and please do correct me if I am wrong
Start the engine.
Remove the vacuum line attached to the FPR
Adjust the FPR to _______ what setting?
Reattach teh vacuum hose line
Is this the correct way to do this?
IN accordance to the AEM instructions its states that Vtec FPR settings should be 48-55 psi so does that mean at idle it should be at 48? and at WOT it should be at 55?
Thanks again
