Default (97/98 vs 00/01) type r's

Is there any difference in the 1997/1998 and the 2000/2001 type r's? Specification wise and performance wise?

thanks..

I believe that the 97-98 models have orange turn signals... Or at least that's where I got mine...

What, no mention of the '99s? (Yes, I am Canadian!)

I think the 97 were hand built...........in late 97 they had a machine they made to help with the polishing of the motor. This machine was more accurate then a human polishing job. Also, the 2000+ had different bushings then the 97&98 years. In addition to the bushings the Honda Motor Company also made parts better, when I say "made them better" I mean fit better. On the 97's they had problems with the parts not being all the same, later they made sure that all parts were exactly the same. One problem was the Rotors (Since the Rotors are different then the GSR's). Also 97's had the old body style with the white line in the front of the grill, and a smooth back. 98+ have the same body style. Also the stick was different, numbers, rims, AC was offered on 98's as option and standard on 2000+. ECU's are different......I believe. Just a few things.

Please verify, the 97-98 come with an oil cooler. I don't think the 00-01 do. Also the the 00-01 get the standard acura key, not the Type R key because of the engine immobilizer.

All type-R have oil coolers
98 was the last year of the "key" when the immobilizer was introduced.

the 4.785 FD was ONLY IN JAPAN.

There is no real difference among the years.

97-98's were the better ones.
ECU is differnet on 00-01's. Apart from that and minor trim changes not much different. No difference mechanically. There is some controversy about the inatek cam being different but who knows.

On my car the doors are difficult to open. However its from the rubber
trim on the doors by the window. If I lube those with silicone then the
doors are fine again. I'll probably replace them eventually.

I think it comes with age. All cars will eventually have that problem.

That would be my assumption as well, although my syster's 95 integra doesnt
exhibit this, although her car has its own quirks.

2000-01 Steering Ratio 15.7:1 My opinion is that more heavy road feel responds from my 97's
97-98 Steering Ratio 16.1:1

Some sites have posted the HP incorrectly at 190. They are rated at 195. I have the 97R brochure here somewhere but don't have a scanner anyways. Check out http://www.bseries.net under the Specs/BSeries Engines menu link and you'll find it listed as 195. Or look around integra.vtec.net long enough and you'll find a post/news article/something from 1996 with the 195HP spec, your window sticker might also list the 195hp spec.

If it helps, I've got 2 of the 1998 brochures from Acura & they both say 195 @ 8000rpm.
