not sure if you guys know too much about HID setups, but oem is always gonna be better than an aftermarket kit. The lighting and beam pattern will be much better and less blinding on an OEM HID housing and bulb. But if you're just looking to upgrade from halogen and have better looks, by all means go with a phillips or any other after market HID. The EP headlights are blinding enough with halogen, i can't imagine what it'd look like to oncoming traffic with a non HID housed headlamps.

Anybody know the exchange rate for germany? When I had my VW you could sometimes buy stuff cheaper(even with the shipping) in Germany then when you buy it here.

Appreciate the reply George. I've noticed in the past that folks who have gotten aftermarket HIDs have tended to post pictures of the car (with the lights on), but not a from the driver's viewpoint. I'm concerned that the general fascination with HID lights is how car owners feel they make the car look, and not how they make the car work better, leading to the factors you've mentioned on why the movement to curtail their use is underway. Again, I'm all for personalizing one's vehicle, but not at the expense of the rest of the driving population.
Previous generations of Civics sold USDM have had pretty pathetic lighting IMO. My 92 DX and SI and my 95 del Sol had some of the worst lighting I've experienced. My '03 Si however seems to have pretty adequate lighting, on both the low/high settings. Perhaps I'm not driving fast enough at night!
