Performing an engine swap – how long does it usually take?
For someone who's moderately experienced with tinkering on Hondas (e.g. not a shop), on average, how long does it take to do a swap, say D16 to B18, from start to finish? This is assuming things go smoothly with minimal problems. This would be from opening the hood to firing up the B18. Can this be a weekend project if you haul ***, or is it something that usually takes several days to complete?
depends if you know what your doing and how many people you got....me and 4 of my friends did a h22 swap in 6 hours into a eg.....and me and my friend chris did my zc swap into my crx in 3....all depends on people know how and if nothing goes wrong
Depends on if you need the car or not. If you need it, it'll take days. If it's an extra car that can stay in the garage all month you'll get it done in a few hours.
started my swap Friday night at about 5pm. Mostly did some disassembly. removed axles, lower motor mounts, and labled wiring harness. Sat morning started about 10am (working under a carport in the rain) and had it running by 6pm.

if your good and have the right tools and all the parts on hand it will take less than 24 hours usually ive dont it as fast as 6 hours but that was direct swap no rewiring or anything like that.. take your time if your not cheer of what your doing...

Taking the d16 out shouldn't take more than about three hours. Putting the B18 in and getting it to fire up and run well shouldn't take more than about five. It's a one or two day project if you're not going ***** to the wall. I've done three swaps in the past four days, if that tells you anything

If you do a Gsr swap...ie usdm should be done in a day.
If you do a ITR swap...ie jdm add a few hours for harness work.
It all depends how prepared you are for the swap as well. Do you have the correct radiator hoses, belts, etc.
And the fun factor is about a 9.

ive always paid someone to do my swaps finnaly decided to do it my self, and man what an acomplishment once you've done it.
1st swap done at a shop for 6 hour =$500 (b16a)
2nd swap done a different shop about 10 hours =$400 (b16a)
3rd swap done by me and a buddy in 14 hours w/ no CEL = priceless (b18c1)
with the right tools, place, and experience it would be more than a day

i have done or been around atleast 6 or 7 swaps and the longest it should take is a late evening.... go to bed... wake up with a clear mind and check everything over before starting it up
the fastest i have seen is 3 hours
the longest it took me was about 10 hours and that was rewiring a 2000 b16, putting gsr mounts and everythign necessary for it to be put into a 95 hatch

for someone who has never done it before expect 3-5 days
dont overdo it. if you havent done it before its a lot to take in. take your time to do it right. i cant stress that enough. if you rush you will screw up.

first swap took me 2 days...lol.
Now I can swap bottom ends and everything over in 4 hours start to finish...lol.
By myself now, it takes about 30 minutes to pull my engine.
And with a friend, usually about an hour

this sounds right to me. i did my first swap mostly by myself with the help of one friend for removing the d16 and lowering in the b18. i pulled in around 7pm had the b18 in and everything finished by 3am fired it up, shut it off, went to sleep for a few hours, woke up and put the axles in and lowered it down and drove it out around 12:30. i had some small bugs that i had to work out over the next week, but since its my only car i had to have it to drive to work the nex day.
