Default Trying to learn about trannies and have a question.

Now I've read and read and searched and search and I've learned quite a bit about trannies.
I've looked over this site http://www.allmotorhonda.com/t...s.htm and see all the gear ratios and I have a question.

Let's take a 1999 GS-R tranny and a 1999 LS tranny and if you look at the gearing the 1st and 2nd gears are EXACTLY the same but the final drive is different.

Now my question is ARE the GS-R and LS trannies 1st and 2nd gears identical or does the final drive make a difference?

Like let's say they were both mounted to a GS-R engine. Would the LS tranny on a GS-R engines 1st and second gear pull exactly the same as a GS-R's 1st and 2nd gear on a GS-R engine? or because of the final drive would it pull different??

I know that the GS-R tranny would pull harder in 3rd, 4th and 5th cause the gearing is shorter but would 1st and 2nd pull identically??

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long drawn out question.

the tranny with the higher final drive will pull harder but the tranny with the lower final drive will have a faster overall top speed in the gears that are the same

the final drive does make a difference..the higher the final drive the more it multiplies the gear ratios by..thats to my understanding..id also like to learn more on this

theres a very minor difference between in 1st and 2nd between the 2. im not sure your exact question though, if your asking is they are physically the same then yeah they are.... and if your askinf performance wise, little to no difference

Yes it does make a diffrence, the final drive effects every gear, even if it has the same ratios the gsr will stil accelerate faster.
