Default EGT question

Just wonderin what is an acceptable EGT or pyrometer temp on a 99 Accord F23A1? And then would this change if i added a turbo to it? I have a 99 Accord i4 w/ VTEC and F-Max kit (T3/T04 turbo) and i just want to be sure im not runnin lean so im usin an EGT to measure how hot the exhaust is runnin ... so what should it be running at?

EGT will vary dramatically depending upon a number of factors, including: placement of temp probe, ambient temperature, engine tune, rpm, load, etc. There is no "one" temperature to expect. If you're using on a turbo fit, then you'd place the probe downstream of the turbo. This places it further from the exhaust manifold and so you'd get lower temps than if you placed it higher up on the exhaust (without a turbo, you'd typically place the probe about six inches down from the manifold flange).

Best you're going to find is someone who has an identical setup to yours--then just compare temps taking into consideration the items above that are not engine-specific, like ambient temperature.

try some searching in the forced induction forum... they are more definative.

depending on were you mount the probe for the readings will slightly vary, but the general consensus says between 750-900 at WOT and 500-600 at a cruise asuming the probe is placed correctly... thats celcius.

mine went up to 1400 at WOT. it sat around 900-1000 during daily driving. my probe was in the very top of the downpipe

you usually want an egt probe within a few inches of the head...my LS teg cruised at 80mph at 1400-1425 deg F. Idle was around 850-950 deg F. Boosted...same numbers. To the floor on the bottle I had my teg tuned where it would stay under 1450 deg F. You can tune our motors to 1525 deg F...I've seen it done. Stock internals would lean me towards 1450 deg F.

BUT....cars are different. I know a guy with a destroked H22 (2.0). His car made the most power on the dyno at 1250 deg F.
