Default Another ITR gets dynoed.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2001 ITR from Judah on this board-thanks Judah! Well, I had some parts left over from my Civic, so naturally I had to throw them in the new ITR. So it got Skunk2 Stage 2 cams with the Skunk valve train, some RC 310cc injectors, and an old style Hondata unit. Judah already had an AEM CAI and a JDM header on there.
Well, went to Church Automotive Testing in Torrance-(C_A_T on this board), to tune the Hondata and cams. Ended up with 197 peak HP on a Dyna Pack dyno, and 131 ft-lbs of torque. Very respectable for a stock bottom end and stock head. Don't know what that would be on a dyno jet...

Anyway, Shawn did an outstanding job of getting a nice even A/F graph. Made some very nice gains in the mid-range, 5-6 ft-lbs of torque on some parts of the graph. He also tuned the part throttle maps, and the car is noticeably smoother to drive. Wish I had a scanner so I could post the graphs, but oh well!

In summary to C_A_T, good tuner, and very professional.

Maybe C_A_T could post them for me, I only have a print out, and no scanner

I have only heard amazing thing from mr. church.

It seems that everyone that goes to CAT comes back with big numbers. Either people who are making weaksauce numbers arent posting, or he is a bad-*** tuner. Im going with the bad-*** tuner route

In all fairness, my Dynapack reads higher than the average Dynojet, so its not fair to judge absolute numbers that way. I'll post the graphs tomorrow.

Nice #'s Todd this is Ralph from NRH glad to hear you got a ITR
what would you estimate difference between the two dyno's are 10/15hp?
was this a 3rd or 4th gear pull heard somewhere that 3rd gear runs yield higher numbers I might have this mixed up though any truth to that?

I think it was 4th gear pulls-124mph at ~ 8,000 rpm.
I am guessing that the Dyna Pack reads about 5% higher than a DynoJet.
It took me a minute to figure out who you were (oh yeah, Ralph)-we keep running into each other when one of us has a day off. How is Edwin doin?

I just wanted to say thanks again, Shawn, your work is top notch

so basically..if yer making 200 hp on the C A T dyno...
yer really making approx. 190 whp on a dynojet, right?
depending on tire/wheel combination..and possibly tire pressure?

The differences are somewhat hard to quantify. My S2000, for example, put down 202 whp on a Dynojet and 212 whp on my Dynapack. Other cars show smaller or larger differences.

Part of the difference is obviously due to no wheel/tire combo on the car to accelerate. Another is the load time. We can set the ramp time to be whatever we want (and start and finish at whatever rpms we want). The longer the load time, the higher the power reading will be.

This also means that it really doesn't matter what gear we dyno in. Gear train losses are relatively similar in all gears, its the different load times that matter, and we can set the load time to be the same in any gear we choose.

Also, as cars increase in power on the Dynojet, load times shorten up, which means you don't necessarily see all the gains because the shorter load time sucks up more power. On the Dynapack, we never change the load time on a car once we start, so the gains can actually show as higher.

Kind of complex, but like any other dyno, the Dynapack is a tool. If the operator is competent, you can get good results on any dyno that will translate to the street. The Dynapack just gives us the ability to do some additional tuning you can't do on a Dynojet.

Heading into the shop soon and will post then.

I'd say that even dynos from the same maker would have differences between them, so the only way to be consistent in tuning is to get your car dynoed at the same place to rule out equipment differences.

so if whp is different between the tune, how does tunning the car compare? for instance with hondata, the cars still going to run just as good if tunned anywhere else just show higher numbers, correct?

The biggest variable when having the car tuned is the tuner...some like more fuel, some less, some like more timing, some less, or a combination of all of them, it's a science, yet involves an amount of art to tune a car correctly.

your injectors are to big go 270 youll get better air/fuel ratio

I am running Hondata-I could run 1000cc injectors and have a perfect A/F ratio. Shawn tuned the A/F ratio to perfection-he tuned the part throttle maps too, and the car is a pleasure to drive. It feels completely stock; that is, until I put my foot in it

it doesn't matter what injectors you run with hondata.. if anything, 270's might be too small.. depending on a/f ratio.

Ha...I'm running 290cc/min on stock cams and I have them over 80% duty cycle, if I ever add in cams again I may need to jump to something higher, so please don't make the assumption that the injectors that he's running are too big, they're either the right size, or a little small.

I would have to agree with that and especially since some guys run 240's with cams.....270's would be waste considering the power he is putting down...310's should be okay considering its an NA application
