Harness question: Pull-up or pull-down style lap belts?
Kinda dumb poll, but I'm trying to figure out what are more popular with racers. I know with some race seats, having pull-up style lap belts makes it easier to tighten. What do you use or prefer?
The lap belts... in other words the belts that go around your waist. Most 3" competition belts come in either pull-up or pull-down style for the lap adjustment. Some of the higher end Schroth work both ways.
You have to pull mine away from the camlock so I suppose that's pull-down.... and it's freaking annoying to do yourself. If you have crew I say pull-down, without crew I'd say pull-up, but I have no experience with the pull-up.
The problem with pull-up on cars like ours is the adjuster is almost always interferring with the harness hole in the seat. Simpson will tell you that pull up style belts are mostly for formula cars where there is less distance betweent the camlock and the structure that the belts are mounted too.

I tend to agree...but currently vote is at 4-0 in favor of pull-up. Hrmness.

I have never used the Pull up but it doesnt seem to be a big deal to me. I just adjust the lap belt as tight as I can once and never adjust it. The Shoulder belts are mainly what I adjust between sessions and they are pull down.

You'll probably find the pull-down flavor in most cars. I've used both. The pull-down lap belts annoy me because the linkage-adjuster-thingy (whatever it's called) digs into the top of my legs and causes brusing and soreness for the next two days. The pull-up belts relocate the adjuster-thingy just to the outside of the seat, but can interfere with the seat and the angle it's forced into makes it practally nonadjustable once you're seated.
They both suck really, but I'm currently using pull-ups adjusted as tight as possible, then I get help moving the seat forward one or two clicks.

Pull up, because you can put the adjuster outside the harness holes for comfort. But it's never as easy as it sounds, I pull up and it just sticks. So I just adjust it tight and leave it that way.
I have seen a LOT of racecars (5 years CASC-OR Scutineer, 3 Years FIA Scrutineer) and I have NEVER seen a pull-up belt in a sedan. Although, there are always a few exceptions.
Pull-up... Yes, having a pile of belts in your lap is a bit annoying, but being able to get them ultra-snug is worth the sacrifice to me.

I do the exact same, I have the (pull down) lap belt set (only in some cases it will be slightly loose) and usually will only adjust the shoulder belts.

Add me to the Pull Up belt list. With a true race seat (Sparco REV) and the clearance in my CRX there is no way a Pull Down will adjust properly. The shoulder harness is a Pull Down because that is what most people I know use and is easy to adjust. Check out the Winston Cup cars and they use this etup too along with a number of sports car events.
Most drivers in sedans will use pull-downs because that is what most of the people are use to seeing or is just easier for them. Pull-ups are more common in formula type cars when there are crew members that can reach in and tighten the lap belts. Pull-ups are also very popular in sedans with full cages as the cage can interfere with tightening the lap belts. Pull-ups are usually easier to reach down and give a another tug to tighten when you are out on the track. All shoulder straps are pull-down.

I disagree because I also have a Sparco Rev in a CRX and it adjusts properly. I think some of what people are saying about clearance problems and hitting the hole in the seat has more to do with the way the belts are mounted not the type of belt.
