Default ITR Headlight Question

My friend cracked the clear front piece of his left headlight housing. He then bought a replacement piece. My question was is there a way to remove this piece and put the other one in place. We tried, but it seems like it's glued in. Can we do this without having to replace the whole headlight housing. It's a 98' Spec JDM ITR. Thanks in advance for the help.

as far as i know, you need to replace the whole unit, or run the risk of being inadequately sealed and having condensation build up.. you can get replacement lenses for relatively cheap and installation is easy..

I really don't think that you are going to be able to take apart the entire housing and replace everything to a similar condition to that which it was before. I am sure that if you do take off the housing to replace the front piece, you are going to have condensation issues when everything is replaced.

If you need to know how to take them apart, check some of the 3rd gen Supra forums, those guys have to take apart and clean their headlights all the time.

I've taken apart my 94 headlights 3 times and have no condensation problems. I even took one of mine apart and swapped in the insides including projector from a busted 98+ headlight and then put it back together. No problems. Just search for headlight painting or painted headlights and you should find instructions for heating up the headlights in the oven to get them apart.

If you do it right, you will have no condensation issues whatsoever. Just replace the lens.

search the appearance/cosmetic forum for "baking headlights" or something like that... you just pop it in the oven for a few minutes so the glue softens, and you can just pull it apart.

i have yet to do the "baking" process on my passenger side light, but ScaleExtric got the process done. His quotes are:

pre-heat your oven to 410 degrees and then put your headlight in there for about 10 min.

it will come apart like butter. ....

re-heat the lens and the headlight..and then after about 7 or 8 min....push the lens back togetther...

hold it together...till it cools down.
