went racing tonight, have Q's on rsx-s
pls dont flame, this is pissing me off until i know whats going on.
i dont own an rsx-s but we went racing in my friends 90 300zx non turbo, he has about 275hp at the wheels, we raced a white type s with what he says exhaust, headers, and intake. he says he has 197 at the fly wheel. HE BEAT US!! and we smelt something like nos from his exhaust.. but not sure. he says he's beaten 300zx's, turbo'd eclipses, stock wrx's turbo, civics/integras(which i can see)and supras g1/2 turbo'd.. now tell me this, can he do all of this winning with just intake, exhaust and headers?!?!?!? or is he lying?

Hahahha.. So you were beaten badly by a RSX-S and now your only way out is to claim he has n2o? Take your lose like a man bro. The Type S is an amazing car and with simple mods the car breaths a lot better and the power made is amazing.
The type S was a very underestimated car from the start but it has shocked many people now with the power being made.
Hell If I raced you I wouldn't tell you what I have. You never know he could have had hondata which puts the type S's in the low 14's very low. Of you do know that toda has released cams and ecu for the car right? The type S pulls hard in the top end with simple mods. So do not assume he had n2o when he beat you, remember all motor on a S is amazing.
Happy hunting.

i said dont flame alright.. damn, u blind or somethin, and i didnt say he had nos, i just said it smelt like he MIGHT of had it, im not sure, and i wasnt driving, so i dont got to claim i lost to him having n2o or anything ok? and i know their amazing cars, i want one myself, but i have to settle for a teg for now. but i dont know man, it doesnt add up when he says he has headers, intake, and exhaust and pushing "197hp" with thoes kind of mods. now i dont know much bout rsx-s but it has stock 200hp, now is that at the fly wheel or the engine? and if its 200hp at the engine? how much is at the fly wheel stock? and again people, dont flame cuz im no expert on rsx's ok?
p.s, i would ask him to pop the hood, but everytime i ask him to, he doesnt, and he always drives off when i go to ask him. so i dont know

Just because you're no expert on RSX's doesnt mean you still have no idea what you're talking about.
Who cares anyways... street racing is stupid, and who cares what "your boys" car can do.

street racing is always stupid, but here's some info for you anyway
RSX Type-S
200 flywheel HP (stock)
~168 wheel HP (stock)
parts (modzzzz) that can make it ~200+ whp
cold air intake, race header (no cat), exhaust, and hondata
that's it...
221+ whp:
toda spec A cams, hondata tuned to toda cams, race header, exhaust, cold air intake
or... ITR cams w/ JDM ITR Hondata flash... etc. w/ the other crap

It is quite possible for the Rsx to have about 200 whp with the modifications you listed. And like somebody previously the smell you probably smelled was the catless exhaust smell b/c the header for the Rsx usually ( if not always ( someone verify this for me please)) eliminates the catalitic converter. And are you positive that you friend with the Z has 275 horsepower to the wheels? Or maybe it was the crank or brake horsepower? Im not saying you are wrong but i just want to make shure.

Modern cats are very good - elminiating it will not, will not, i repeat will not, give you a 20hp gain.

Yea im prolly gonna say it is cause of a test pipe or race header! I have a test pipe on GSR with a jdm header and under full acceleration i can smell some funk from my exhaust.I can just imagine how it smells behind me when racing someone! It is sorta a sweet smell, but not as sweet as antifreeze, and could sorta smell like brakes!
.... the Jackson Racing RSX Type-S Race Header. TIG welded in a progres.sive Tri-Y configuration by Jardine specially for Jackson Racing, the RSX Type-S Race Header uses only US-made stainless steel and incorporates the same technology used in Jardine's exhaust systems for the Honda factory superbike team. No torch-cut mild steel flange here, the RSX Type-S Race Header's beefy 3/8-inch thick stainless steel flange is CNC machined and provides outstanding corrosion resistance.
The 14-inch long phase-tapered primary tubes step up from 15/8-inch diameter to 13/4 and 2-inches before reaching the 2 3/16-inch true merge collector, and clearly reflect Jardine's superbike expertise. Performance is equally stunning: an extra 29 horsepower and 12 ft-lbs of peak torque when used with a DC Sport cat-back exhaust and Cold air intake. The RSX Type-S Race Header offers dramatic power improvements without making any permanent modifications to your Acura.
it was designed w/out a cat!!

30hp from a header? Well i dont have dyno sheets to prove otherwise. And likely part of the power gain comes from the extra long tubes afforded by removal of the cat. If one were to hack of a 12" section of that cat back and installed a 2.5" carsound cat, you'd see a minimal (2-3hp) drop in power. Its not worth it.

You think there is only 1-2whp difference between the two?

I spoke to toda about running the spec a package with a cat... their response was it will be very free flowing but will yield a loss of 3-5 hp on the top end. So me being in cali, investment in a header with a cat is essential.
