Would you buy an ITR with 102k miles?
Right.
I currently own a 1999 UK ITR. No A/C with carbon bonnet and 5zigen exhaust.48k on the clock.
I have been offered a 1998 UK ITR, A/C, Lightweight 15's, HKS exhaust and header, AEM intake, unichip and a few other bits and pieces.
Ive been offered this car for £3000 less than I can get for mine, plus this other one comes with all standard parts.
Would you be wary of buying an ITR with such high milage?
Its been well maintained, new brakes all round, cambelt done, serviced every 6k miles etc.
I owe about 2k on my ITR, so im thinking buy this one, and sell mine - I dont owe any money no more
I was going to do I/H/E/unichip to mine anyway so I figure im saving. Its just the 100k thats putting me off.
Thanks in advance

I'd ask him if you could do a compression check and inquire about how much oil it uses. Not sure about pounds, I'm guessing 3000 is around $5000 US?
48km --> 102km does not make it worth it imo.
if you were buying a used itr w. 102km miles, i would say buy it, provided you thoroughly test the motor. asides that....stick with your 99 spec.
102 km ~= 70k miles?

doesnt matter what £3000 is, uk money is traded between uk people like us money is.... so if i went to the UK, my $3000 would get me much less than £3000, but its treated the same way.
last conversion i did was 1.6 USD --> £1
so £3000 is 4800 dollars, but i STILL would not do it.
£ = ascii code ALT + 156

Its 102000 miles not Km
The modifications are going to cost me the best part of £2000 to get to the same spec.
So basically im saving £5000 but getting 102k miles not 48k miles.

in that case, its on a per case basis.
the car may be time to get a motor rebuild, which would run you around £3500 anyhow.
or it could run for the next 200k flawlessly

How likely is the car going to need a rebuild? It burns less than a litre every 6000miles.
The chap thats selling it is trustworthy, he's been offered the same as a trade in, he just wanted to offer it to an enthuiast, so the car dealers dont get it.
I know the Prelude Vtecs go on for 250k miles assuming its been looked after.
How strong are the ITR motors?
I was thinking, more HP per litre = more stress etc?
What are the b16's in Civic's like for reliability?

I bought my ITR last november with 35k on it. The rate im going its going to be at 100k miles in 3 years.
Im thinking sell it now whilst its still low milage, and run the 98 for 5 - 6 years, when it most likely will be worth 3k. with 180 on the clock.
Just wondering if the ITR will hold the miles like other hondas (being pretty tuned)
Its had new brakes all round, new driveshafts, cambelt + other things.
I may do the deal anyway and put the parts on my 99, then sell the 98 for what I paid for it.

Personally, I would keep the newer R with less miles. It is a known quantity-you don't know what little problems you might inherit with the 102k 98 R. My opinion.
I know its a fair few miles, but why exactly is it 'too much'?
Is it because of problems that may occur above 100k miles? - I dont mind about resale value. It'll be worth 3k in standard condition whatever the milage.
Car is being compression tested today. The Tranny is good, no crunching etc. ?Newish Bridgestones. Numberplate worth £400+ (R8ARE)..

So does no-one no what an ITR is like in terms of reliability at over 100 k miles?
Basically I want to do this deal, but wont if a 100k + ITR is gonna be unreliable.
No worries about resale value.

Im not gonna race the plate no
All im thinking is its a cracking deal if you add up the value of the parts.
He has receipts for £2500 for the mods. The plates worth £400 so im basically paying £3100 for a 1998 ITR.
All I want to know is, are there any particular problems with Hile Milage ITR's?

To be perfectly honest my ITR hasnt had the best of luck.
4th Gear syncro was gone when I bought it.
