Sounds normal to me. It probably just running a little rich and its nothing to worry about.

No worries, it is normal for the JDM motors to do that. I have a B-18C, and all of my friends that have Japanese DOHC's have the same perdicament! Plus it is fun, get this... if you beat a car that trys to race you, he will have black **** all over his car for fucken with u! ;}

holy **** dont scare the kid.
the little puff of black smoke at vtec is normal, its just excess fuel being expelled out the exhaust when vtec engages.

Agreed w/ the rest.. I was running rich due to Mugen program.. Makes vtec rich like Bill gates!
So all this freakin carbon collects.. in your muffler.. and gets all over the bumper..
You may start throughing a check engine light... for your O2 sensor from all the carbon / richness.. You would see a orange engine light.. come on of course..then if you were to check the code at the pinout.. you would get a # 1 (one quick flash periodically.. and nothing else)
But check your oil Frequently You may be using a "lil" with rich condition.. its wise to check it Everytime you fill for gas! I went into oilstarvation and lost my rod bearings...
bye bye high compression b17a

my GS-R gets a **** load of black carbon out the exhaust. when we opened up my cover i saw my pistons were burnt and my rings were done. after i got a new set of b18c pistons... the black **** is still coming out, and its makin my bumper look oooglay, is there ANY WAY to stop that **** from coming out?! i dont have a JDM motor. Also, i hear a big POP sound when i **** gears (sometimes), is it my engine back firing? late

That cat won't last very long with super rich conditions......
My 99 B16A2 sometimes gives a black emission at WOT and redline, not so much at VTEC engagement. I was surprised on the dyno where there was NO black puffs at all even at the top end. My buddy videotaped it, but I don't have the film handy.....
