Default zc or a vtec head?

I wanna know what would be best bang for the buck and the easiest. Today i was running on my stock D16a and accelerated normally when my engine shut down.. thinking i blew a hole in the block i popped my hood.. only to discover that my timing belt snapped. Now.. i dont actually know if i damaged the valves or any other damage, but if im going to spend money i might as well try to get more power. I was thinking i could just swap a nice ZC engine in with no hassle.. or mate a d16z6 vtec head onto my stock block and do the whole vtec changeover. how much will this run me and which do you think is the best??

Forget the whimpy SOHC VTEC motor. Get tha ZC, you'll feel it alot better. The SOHC VTEC just doesn't have enough.

I agree, just get the zc, it came in the ef's and crxs in japan so what better to use than the zc? but why go halfway, get the b16a! muhahahahhahahaha

get Z6 head. dont listen to those zc people. what do they mean "SOHC VTEC just doesnt have enough" ? enough what? it makes more power than a zc motor. the stock d16z6 makes 127hp, but when u put it on a crx block u also rise compression a lot. mine is at least 10.5 right now, as opposed to the stock d16z6's 9.2. and dont forget that zc motor is ~$1k and if u just buy the z6 head it'll cost u ~$200. so w/ vtec head u get more power than w/ zc AND it costs a fraction of the cost. i think z6 swap is better...

Get a ZC, in southern california there are places that can sell it to you for around $600. Then slap a GReddy turbo kit ; )

ive been in a crx with a zc motor, seemed liek stock with stock si motor with bolt ons, a friend and i bu together a mini me (d16a6 with z6 head) and i have to say that car is faster AND the motor is still breaking in, we just took it to 4.5k yesturday, i have a '96 b18b1 in a 89 si, though my friends car is gutted it was only a little slower then mine and he was not revving all teh way, plus he had a guy in his car and the vtec is not hooked up yet. yes u can turbocharge the zc motor easier cause of the lower compression but u can just cahnge the pistons on the mini me to do the same thing and it will prolyl still be cheaper then the zc motor and there is way less work required to do all this, also if any of the internals **** up on the zc there is no way to rebuild it without gettign shafted a few times considerign its a jdm motor and u cant get parts at us honda delerships, so u will end up gettign another zc motor. the mini me run a compression of about 10.5:1 which i will have to confirm soon. and the mini me swap is deffinetly putting out more power then a zc motor and u get more low end tq as well. thats all i have to say

Bro I only got threw two sentences and thats all I need to read. Same **** here, brand new rebuilt d16a6, I blew the third piston raggin on it so I rebuilt it, cut my head 40,000 of in inch, with a cheap header so much of a difference, wish i could show you oi have two, I like the stoner I am forgot to tighten up my "timing belt tentioner" Keep in mind new head new valves!, Fucked them all to **** bent every one of them. Dont bull **** around with your timing belt, If you cant do it then take it to someone who can. But I also fixed it and have purchased a ZC from Nippon-motors, ****** bastards! Becareful if you get **** from them. I paid 819.00 motor trannie intake/header manifold, dist. shipped from cali to tampa, fl for 270.00,
recieved it, tore it down only to find out i had two bent rods, I was going to replace them any way, but still, they guarantee it will run and they say they do a compression test, bull ****. FUCH UM. I got my ****, Any way, I got a stock head if ya want it.

exactly, u tell them, kahren! i reved it to 4.5-4.6 rpm last night and he couldnt keep up w/ his foot on the floor in a b18b crx! no vtec, just higher compression so far...can u imagine what the vtec will do? also it's always a good idea to keep ur car USDM so u can get parts easy.

It depends on how much money you have and how much you're expecting from it. Sure if I found a head for $200 bucks, I WOULD buy it with no ******* questions asked. Can you find one easily? NO! I've been looking for one for the past 2 months and I didn't see anything affordable in $200-$300 range. There is no way I am paying more than that for the head. Max was lucky to find a dude who sold the head for so cheap. That's all I have to say about it.

no i wasnt. it's easy to find a z6 head for $200-250. where the **** have u been looking? not in ur back yard i hope u wont find one on ebay eather. why dont u go to some real sites and try to find one. i seriously dont know what ur bitching about just look for it more. and even if by some miracle from god u really cant find one for less than $300, it's still better than paying $800 for a zc motor. cuz once again: more hp/tq for less money... i mean wtf is there better about zc if it's more $$$ and less power?

well.... just got word that i bent 12 valves and possibly ruined my sleeves. i got an estimate on a VTEC head w/ complete changeover would cost around 1600.. cost wise.. it looks like rebuilding would be the better option.. or buying a new head.. any other ideas??

whoops...this is my brother's screen name!!!!

Screw zcs, just get an LS and turbo it or go LS/VTEC. Just save $ and be patient.
