I'm trying to figure out what the problem is with this jdm itr tranny w/4.785 FD i picked up last week.

Looks like i cannot get it to go into gear. It goes into 4th and reverse but not any other gear. Whether you depress the clutch or not, it doesn't make a difference. I checked the shift linkage and everything is aligned and in place, the clutch slave cylinder is bled and everything looks fine. I tooj the tranny back out to ensure i installed it correct and it looks fine.

Keep in mind, i had a tranny(4.5 FD) in before, and everything worked fine. The clutch is practically new. I can return it to get my old tranny back but i prefer to see if i can fix this (depending on price) so i can have the 4.8 fd.

Any ideas? Could the gears just be messed up?

 

Sounds like a clutch problem or perhaps the tranny is a little crooked - if the linkage is moved just a little bit it can prevent the car from going into gear.

 

I had a similar problem with the tranny I got with my JDM ITR swap years ago...it had a bent shift fork. Hopefully it is something much easier to fix for you.

 

sounds internal. see if you can buy the core and get your old one back.
