Help me out, this was my first time taking night shots.
I wasn't using a flash. The only thing I did was change from like landscape picture to night picture. Is there anything I can do with the shutter? My camera has only a slow shutter and fast shutter. I don't really know which does what. I had more pictures but they were all really blurry. Oh and I wasn't using a tripod. Here's the pictures, flame on or help me out.
Get a tripod. The pics dont look that bad considering you were not using a tripod. Slower shutter speed captures more light...which is better for night pics.

Yea, white lighting is better than the orange tinted light...unless your camera can adjust to the light

those pics look just fine.. only thing i would try is adjusting the whitebalance to get rid of that orange-ish-pink-ish light..
yeah white balance is where its at, if your camera has adjustable whitebalance sometimes it includes a mode which allows you to measure it by pointing it at the area that you're about to shoot to fix everything up. one thing that i ran into at night was the ISO, i had some problems with clarity because my setting was too high. so if you have an adjustable ISO settings, lower it to about 100 or around abouts. and tripods are essential, you can get one of those ground tripods for 10 bux at a camera store. so far so good.
i set my camera for 16 sec shutter speed with no flash on the regular setting, not the night time. with just the street lights. it made the pics kinda yellow really. but i carry a tripod in my car. cause you just never know. here have a look!
with out the flash on normal setting. 16sec

night time setting. with flash. 32 sec shutter speed

When you're taking night pics, and dragging the shutter to collect more light, the camera gets every shake, every heartbeat, and usually causes a blurry pic. So the tripod keeps it steady the entire time, unlike a handheld shot.

when the camera takes a picture the shutter opens and (on a film camera) the film is exposed to the light that comes through the lens. this is "taking a picture." and i dont know how it works on a digital camera, but every camera has some sort of shutter.

Good half assed response........The higher the shutter speed the longer the actual shutter stays open and sucks in light.

Not every camera allows you to customize the shutter speed. Lower level digi-cams have auto settings: day, night, indoor, outdoor, etc, not as many choices for the user.
