Accord Reliability: I4 vs. V6
Family is planning to get an Honda Accord. (Honda clearance sale)
Asking around church friends, they said that the Honda Accord V6's reliability is worst than the Honda Accord I4.
Is it true to the 2003 models as well? Is there any reliable sources about this other than this possible rumor?
I see that Consumer Report gave a higher score to the V6 model automatic (with a 71) over all other Accord models.

the 4cyl automatics seem to be of better quality and do not fail as often as the V6 ones. having driver both a 4cyl and a V6 car I would rate the overall reliability to be about the same.
go for the 4 cyl... better gas mileage. and if gas prices are goin up everywhere else like they are here...high MPG is a goooooooooooooooooooooood thing. plus honda 4 cyls are jus as reliable as any engine will ever be.
There was a problem with the differentials in the 00'-01' Accord/Odyssey with the V6 but the problem has been corrected. Overall, reliability has been about the same.
Ehh, I've had barely any problems with my I4 auto. Handful of check engine lights. Both of my o2 sensors went, and there was something wrong with my fuel guage.
My parents are sick of these check engine lights. They even offered to buy me a new 2003 Accord. Would love to get a 6-spd V6. Too bad each dealership only receives one for a number of months.

Checked what CEL was thrown.
By the way, my car went in the shop again last week. My radio was back, and it got installed. Told the guys there that my clock bulb went. Bulb alone costed me $1.50, or so. Installation for the bulb, and the radio was around $150. When I picked up my car, and got the bill, one guy who worked there said that those bulbs go out all the time. Great way for them to make money. Bastards.

Thats not true. They get allocations based on how big their dealership is and how many cars they have sold in the past. The dealer i used to work for has sold 9 of them this summer.
The only real difference in reliability between the V6 and i4 is the tranny on the V6 isnt that great.

That's what I was told at V.I.P. Honda, and Planet Honda. Oh well.

the I4 is the way to go really. The 6 even in the 6th gen has terrible transmission problems and they are usually a little harder to find parts for...particularly the 5th gen. I don't care for the 5th gen V6 at all. A waste of gas is all it is. The 6th gen v6, I love...but I believe the auto v6 to be a lot jerkier and prone to failure than the auto I4 is....
