Engine swap for my Lude...
Ive been pondering this for a while... I wanted to go and hack up my car and put a ridiculously large engine in my lude... like a chevy 350... i havent put any effort toward it yet bcz i love the good ol v-tec with DOHC so im wondering what is the biggest DOHC v-tec engine honda makes?... the biggest I know about is the new v6 Accord engine ummm the J30A4... I just read that it only throws the accord a mid 14 on its 6spd tranny though... how much of a wheight differance is there and how much of a performance boost do you think this would afford my Lude? Thanx all... latter.
Whoa... wait... ive been looking around and just noticed the engiine i was talking about was the J30A1 which is DOCH and the newest one is the J30A4 which is only SOHC... also... whats up with the A4 having 40 more hp? Higher compression? I like the asthetics of the A1 much more and I am addicted to DOHC... so if its just a compression thing ill just get diff. pistons in the A1...
honestly, i have no idea as to the answers for your questions. but, i was wondering, how much would you be willing to sell your h22a for after you swapped it out for the j30a1?
maybe its not that people hate it...its that people jus havnt thought about it, so they know nothing about it in return. jus look it all up the hard way. look at some pictures, match some numbers, do what u can. then you can enlighten all of us for future reference.
oh yeah forgot to mention, the a4 prolly jus has better breathing ability than the a1, so therefore it would have more horsepower, its newer too, so newer and better technology as well.

the cost of swapping one of those engines in your car is gonna be ridiculous. why not just supercharge or turbo the h22a? you'll make more power, and your car wont be as heavy. as far as putting the 350, just dont do it, that much bottom end torque on a fwd just isnt cool at all. if you want a muscle car it would be cheaper to just pick an old z28 or something.

no we just dislike wasting money and ruining the handle dynamics of a nice car by throwing a huge, heavy v6 into a car designed for a 4cyl
there is a reason no one modifies the v6s heavily, or even mildly...
the SOHC V6 with 200hp sucks, the auto tranny sucks, the aftermarket for it sucks
the DOHC v6 you speak of from an NSX is going to cost you a fortune, not worth the $, put that $ into your H22a and you will have all the power you need
the latest SOHC V6 with the 6-speed is also an aftermarket nightmare and will also cost you an arm and a leg. the extra 40hp comes from a more aggressive cam, intake manifold, throttle body, exhaust manifolds. to show you how friendly it is to modification, you cant get a set of headers for it, the cylinder head and manifolds are all one piece, not to mention the computers cant be cracked by Hondata
stick with your h22a

WOW!!! Holy ****... an intelligent answer!!!!! dude thank you. I didnt know about the whole non existent aftermarket for those engines. that was exactly the kind of reply I was looking for... polite and informative... thank you!
BTW the only reason I wanted to do this is I know 3 wrench heads that can do just about anything to a car and I have the hook ups from them on muscle car ****... I was only gonna use the car for 1/4 mile and was probably goin to change it to mid engine RWD... just wanted something that looked like it was "ricey ****" (the tracks around here are dominated by muscle) but ran faster than all the stangs and camaros...
I guess Ill keep my H22 and start a new project car on a 280zx or something... later
