Default Kamikaze Header for NA?

I got a good deal on a used Kamikaze Header. The header I got is not the Endyn version with the full 2.5 piping from the collector to the flange. It tapers off to around 2 inches. I have heard good feedback from this header design for supercharged applications. I want to know how it works with NA.

The header has some pretty short primaries, and a configuration that may be too flowing for NA. So far people are telling me to junk it for NA. I am being more optimistic and thinking of running a test pipe with a diameter of around 2 inches. I was thinking that by bottlenecking the exhaust a bit, I would be able to get some backpressure that will hopefully get me some good velocity for my NA application.

The motor will be a stock GSR. The throttle body has been flared, and the IABs disabled. The ECU will be reprogrammed to compensate for this setup which in theory should take in more air.

Do you think this will work? Any suggestions?

if you got a good deal on it use it, until you can afford a better one.

I personally have never seen testing done on N/A apps with this particular header. Larry from Endyn advises to not use on N/A apps mild to wild.

if your getting a good deal then buy it and the sell it and get something better for NA..

also.. why did you disable the iabs?? i have done this on more than one car on the dyno and it hurts you alot. there are NO gains from disableing them

Wouldn't it be possible to re-tune the ECU to make up for the open IABs? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this as well.

no, its not a matter of tuning, its a matter of air flow....

I know this is getting off topic, but explain what you meant with it being a matter of airflow. Is there a loss of velocity in the manifold with the IABs open all the time?

One last question on the off topic...about the loss of air velocity. I am assuming this will take effect at rpms below 5000 rpm (or before the IABs are opened by P72). Any thoughts on ways to increasing air velocity? I am just curious on how Alaniz modifies the stock GSR manifold to flow so well. They can modify these to flow as much as TWM ITBs as told to me by an insider at Alaniz.

Going back....so you guys think I should just junk the kamikaze header + test pipe idea? If Endyn themselves don't suggest the header for NA...then I think its over...

Yeh, you'll get some back pressure from a botteneck but you'll get the velocity after the bottleneck and not before it. Think of pinching off a water hose, you get a fast stream coming out after the pinch but how is the fluid flowing before the pinch?

Damn...I was hoping to get some backpressure before the bottle neck itself, and scavenge some torque. So at this point it's a lost cause and I should just junk the header. There's no remedy to make this work well in a mild NA application.

The header does not have the 02 sensor bung and fell a few inches short from my cat. I was really planning to bolt in the test pipe and use this as my race exhaust. But if it will just hurt performance and be loud....looks like this has to go...

hey guys, just stumbled onto this thread.. i found one of these headers for really cheap and i was just gonna throw it on my b16, does anyone out here actually have one of these installed on their car(being n/a and not f/i) if so how is it?? is it gonna cause a loss of power or something. does anyone know for a fact. cause ive heard from some with n/a that it works well and others say nay.. was lookin for dyno #'s if possible

i had it on a single cam and a b series and well the stock header made better midrange on both i didt really notice all that much top end either so it looked better and was lighter so i think that was the main advantage , if u have a b series the best header for the money that ive had is the dc sport jdm 4-1 with the 2.5 inch collector made mad power above 4500 rpm till redline and was like 300 shipped peace
