Tires, Tires, Tires....
If ya had a choice of these tires which one would you use for for everyday driving ( DOT laws don't apply
).
Looking for some new rubber on my rotas (15x6.5)
Choice 1- Advan AO48
Choice 2- Advan AO38
Choice 3- AdvanAO49
Any other tire that would be illegal to use but gives great performance? I could care less about DOT laws to be honest.

If I could afford to daily drive any of those (which I can't
) I'd pick the AO38.
Honestly though I can't see why anyone would spend the money on R-compound tires for daily driving when Azenis are available.

I have the A038's right now......GREAT TIRE! Grip and steering response is soo awesome....you will not be disappointed. My A038's are worn to hell and I am looking into the A048's or A038's again. Where can you get them? I will be interested in another set of advans soon.
Marios right but the A048s look awesome on the car but it seemed they were understeering a little on some of the tighter corners here in melbourne during the summer and they only lasted 12.000 kms \ barely 8000 miles

AD07 are some great tire for street. Some friends I know said it has 70% performance of A048. With better wet traction of course. PLUS it doesn't worn out as fast as those R compounds u listed.
These tires cost too much in N.America.

R compound tires as a daily driver are not a good idea.
1. You may get more flats. More stuff sticks to the tire and may work it's way through the rubber and into the carcass.
2. Cold R compound tires have dangerous spin characteristics. Even the Azensis are somewhat dangerous around 30 degrees F.
3. For the street the added performance is negligible and not worth the price. If you are using R-compounds to their fullest on the street, you are doing a bonehead move. I have done this and it was/is stupid. Taking exit ramps at very high speeds are fun, but when you think about the uncontrollabe variables, it is not wise (dust, slower cars, police officers, etc. etc.)
If I were you I would just get the Falkens. For what you are looking for, they just cannot be beat.

I think that getting R-compound tires for the street is asking for more trouble than it is worth. If you wanted to get them as a track tire that you could drive to the track, then that is one thing. For a daily driver, that is another. The potential that they have to get you in a lot of trouble isn't worth the *bling* factor or the performance gains you get over something like the Azenis.

I loved my set of RE540's and had no problems with them on the street.... not even in the rain or when cold!!
Hey Pompiuses.... you and I have the same taste, as I have the EBC brake discs/rotors as well.

Yup. Also:
4. R compound tires wear so much faster than street tires that you will be spending a lot more for them - as well as for mounting/balancing.
5. R compound tires in the rain are a very bad idea.

Maybe. Depending on your priorities, there may (or may not) be other tires that match up better...
Dry performance - Falken Azenis Sport, Bridgestone RE010, Bridgestone S-03
Wet performance - Bridgestone RE010, Bridgestone S-03, Yokohama AVS ES100
Cost - Falken Azenis Sport, Yokohama AVS ES100
Treadwear - Bridgestone RE010, Bridgestone S-03, Yokohama AVS ES100

To all that have replied, I had no idea they were R rated. Second- well that sums alot of the comments.
As for the Azenis, I like them but was looking for a change to something as agressive but not overkill.
I guess its back to the azenis

Try the new HANKOOK R compounds.
They got a good review in the latest Grassroots Motorsports (compared to the AO32R soft compound and Toyo Proxes RA-1)

Because they are only available in 4 lug right now, otherwise I'd have unloaded my Te37's already and snagged up 10 or so of them.
Rob, just get/keep the Azenis, for all the reasons that Dave so clearly pointed out AND especially since they are so friggen inexpensive in comparison.
