Default OT possible but; Historically what other cars do you know that are as much a thief magnet as the ITR

As the title says, past and present?

I can remember hearing that the early 80's Buick GN and or GSX/GNX were hot one's to take but, I can't really remember a car as popular to steal and strip as the ITR.

Anyone or anything else?

OK guys but, there are plenty of Accords and Camrys that survive many a cold lonely night at train station depots or mall parking lots & city streets with no issues.

Let me clarify, any car that will dissappear quicker than a bride's nighty in a public space with no provocation. The theft is the major negative issue related to owning the R, so what OTHER cars have this same issue? Whats the draw? And how or can it be solved? (I know the solving question has been asked already so that's kinda moot.)

Many of us are patiently waiting this hybrid theft trend out. Will there Ever be a clear day?

I am an optimist but, I also store my car and don't daily drive it.

What Other car will dissappear as quickly or has in the past as the R?

Don't forget the RX7s, they if left alone will be gone too.

And yea the GNs where the hottest to disappear but I think the ITR is now hotter with the rising Import scene

I dont think most other car guys that dont own a ITR realize how much of a problem it is. Which makes me wonder if we would know about the other big thief magnets.

I dont know, but I would think Corvettes would have a problem. That engine could be put into anything from a CJ7 to a 69 Camarro, to a KitCar Hotrod.

Accords and such are different. They're on the list of the most stolen cars. Duh, they're also the most made car. I think what people here care about is the cars stolen most percentage wise.

Toyotas and Hondas dominated the list of most-stolen cars in 2002, according to a report from CCC Information Services. While overall theft losses declined 3%, that's still a total of $8 billion.

Of the top 25 most-stolen cars, 20 are Toyotas or Hondas. The Honda Accord is the single-most-stolen model, according to CCC, which analyzes losses submitted by property and casualty insurers. The most-stolen brand? Chevrolet.

Among the trends CCC reported:
Minivans and sport-utilities continue to gain the attention of thieves, with 2002 showing a 10% increase in thefts since 2000.

Thefts of full-sized models and muscle cars like the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro continue to slide, reflecting their fall-off in popularity with consumers.

All of the domestic brands on the top 25 list are pickup trucks.

Most stolen vehicles in 2002
Rank Year Make Model
1 1989 Toyota Camry
2 1991 Toyota Camry
3 1990 Toyota Camry
4 2000 Honda Civic SI
5 1994 Honda Accord EX
6 1994 Chevrolet C1500 4X2
7 1995 Honda Accord EX
8 1988 Toyota CAMRY
9 1994 Honda Accord LX
10 1996 Honda Accord LX
11 1997 Ford F150 4X2
12 1996 Honda Accord EX
13 2001 Ford F150 4X2
14 1995 Honda Civic EX
15 1991 Honda Accord LX
16 1999 Honda Civic SI
17 1990 Honda Accord EX
18 1995 Honda Accord LX
19 1992 Honda Accord LX
20 1995 Acura Integra GS-R
21 1997 Honda Accord LX
22 1997 Chevrolet C1500 4X2
23 1995 Honda Civic DX
24 1992 Honda Accord EX
25 1987 Toyota Camry

CCC Information Services

Toyotas and Hondas are popular with the public, which makes them popular with thieves. They also tend to have interchangeable parts among model years, creating a profitable market for replacement parts, CCC said

Put an ITR with just about any other car you can think of in a empty dim lit parking lot overnight and I will put money down that the R would get stolen first. Why is it such a magnet? B/c all the thugged out gangster punk *** kids you see driving around that are part of the import scene, and our R is regarded as one of the best cars in the import scene and unfortunately just about every part on the car swaps into civics and other hondas. The demand for ITR parts is huge. Im sure all of you already knew this though.

I think the per capita list (owner to stolen ratio) is a much more accurate representation of the theft rate of a certain vehicle than that total volume stolen list. The Integra will never be on any of those total vehicles stolen lists because there simply aren't nearly that many of them.

This was the per capita list that CNN brought out. Numbers represent reported vehicles stolen per 1,000 insured vehicles owned.

Acura Integra 21.7
Jeep Wrangler 8.5
Jeep Cherokee 4WD 6.6
Honda Prelude 6.4
Mitsubishi Mirage
(2-door) 6.2
Chrysler 300M 5.9
Hyundai Tiburon 5.5
Dodge Intrepid 5.1
Mitsubishi Mirage
(4-door) 5.1
Chrysler LHS 5.0

The reason Camry's and Accords are stolen so much is because there are so many of them and they are so easy to steal. ITR's would be at the top of the list but for every ITR there are 50 camry's and 50 accords. If you did a % for each model of car stolen in comparison to how many of that model where manufactured the ITR would dominate the charts. Plus if I steal a PY ITR and I'm making a get away isnt that going to be alot easier to spot than say a gold camry. Not to mention after watching a thing on stealing cars all you need to steal an accord is a battery, drill and screw driver. I watched this dude drill through the fender of an accored right into the battery, which killed the power and made the doors unlock, then he plugged up the battery he brought with him and started the car with the screw driver. It took like 15 seconds. Poor engineering on Honda's part if you ask me.

reason why old school toyotas were easy targets is because the key cylinders would wear and after a while a regular key can unlock and most of the time start the car. speaking of worn down key cylinders, a few years back my boss had given me the key to his 90 cadillac so that i can park his car infront of the office. so now im walking towards the car unlock the door and start it up and begin to pull the car up front. after pulling up with the car i realized it wasnt his car, drove back around the block parked the car in the same spot and got out right away. this was by far one of the funniest things that has ever happened to me..

What amazes me is why is honda/Acura the only real Auto Manufacturer that makes swapping engines in other models so easy...I might be wrong but I dont believe there is another make so easily swapped amongst cars... with minimal efforst. If anybody knows please educate me...
