Default Stock Spring Question

Hey all, I have a 97 Civic Dx 4DR. I'm putting the stock springs back in. I need to know how to identify the front from the rear springs. I know one pair is heavier(sic?) than the other. Also one is more narrow, as in diameter.

I think I know which is which but need to confirm before I risk my fingers and body parts with that stupid cheap spring compressor I have. Thanks

front's are longer than the rears about 98% of the time

long and thick = FRONT
short and thin = REAR

the front springs are definately of a thicker gauge.... as for the rear, they can be identified by this: The top of the rear coils is more tightly wound than the rest of the spring... The coils are closer together at the top...... That should help... I hope

Thanks Guys, I managed to figure it out.. If you apply some pressure on the springs the rear are softer, as in they compress easier than the fronts. So the fronts were a little bit longer, heavier, and the overall diameter was smaller. Not the diameter of the material its self but the entire spring. Now I got all these bump stops I don't know where each goes but thats not a big issue really right?
