Default Help: Timing Belt

I just installed my s2 s1 cams and gears and it's time to put the timing belt back on the gears. How can I go about doing this without loosening the belt. I am followind the directions on c-speedracing.

Well the only way to do it is before you bolt in the cams, take the cam and cam gear as one piece and put it at an angle under the belt. Once you get the gear under the belt and meshed at an angle then straighten the cam out and lay it in place. Hope this makes sense. Good luck.

huh? I'm lost. Why can't you just loosen the tensioner and slide the belt on while the cams are on?

It'd be a lot quicker if you'd just loosen the tensioner, slip the belt on, set the tension, and recheck the timing marks.

your belt also might have streched a lil bit since you first put it on however many miles ago.

This is a long story...but I figured I could get the timing belt back on somehow without loosening the belt. Anyway, not gonna happen. I do have a question though. I have talked to 3 different people, 2 say I have to take off the lower timing cover (which means I have to takew off the crank pulley); Another kid told me that's not necessary because there is a "pop-out" where the tensioner is. The only thing is, how the hell do I get to this pop-out if there is one???? I don't remember seeing anything that will pop off the cover.
One more thing, I know the belt has to be tight but exactly how much play should be in it if I measure it in the middle of the cam gears?

there should be a rubber grommet piece, its a lil over 1" in diameter. pop it out and stick a 14mm socket in there. have everything lined up at tdc and spin the crank about 3-4 tooth and it should tension by itself, then tighten the bolt
