Default exaust pipe size question

I recently gave away a radar detector to a friend that mendrel bends exaust pipes for cars and he's going to bend + install wider pipes for me for free.
Anyways, I was wondering what size should I have installed?
I have a 2000 automatic Civic EX with stock pipes and an universal Arospeed bomb muffler, and an AEM SRI. I'm leaning towards 2 1'4 in, to help my engine breath a little better but not lose too much backpressure.
Any sugestions?
Thanks

get a different motor if you want your motor to breath a little better and then make your car 5 speed if you want anything done to actually enhance the performance of the car

With your motor, 2 1/4 would be fine. Top end will be a little better and you'll keep your low end grunt.

Lol coptzer, you gonna give me the money Only reason I'm doing this is because it's free. If it is going to hurt my car, then I won't do it at all. From what I've heard, some people tell me 2.25 and some say 2.5.. But from the majority I'm hearing 2.25 will be safe and really won't make me lose too much backpreasure which will = very little HP gain. But I've heard that making the pipes 2.25 will give it a better exaust tone...

TrboInteg, will it change the tone of the exaust? Currently with my stock pipes and arospeed muffler with the resonator taken out, my car sounds kinda bad.

go with 2.25 that should be perfect for your car, YES being 5 speed would help but not everyone has lots of money to spend on their car so dont worry youll be fine with 2.25 anything bigger might not help it might slow you down since u are stock....thanks

Cool, TuCKiNaLL4s I'll throw this question out to ya too, will the 2.25 pipes make my car sound nicer. Curently it sounds like a fart when I step on it, but it isn't even a loud fart like most cars with an exaust it's just a weak fart

Hehe well it sounds great when your in the car. But my mom took the car to the store the other day and I listened to it leaving my neighborhood and I must admit it sounds different than other cars with loud exaust systems. It's weird, it's louder than stock but not as loud as other N/A guys, and it doesn't have quite the same classic tone that almost every car has.

It will probably make it a little louder. Almost any time you change the exhaust, the tone changes with it. But, that's the price you pay when you try and extract every little bit performance from you car.
