Ignition QUESTION
O.K. so I blew 2 coils in my distributer about two months apart, dont know weather I shifted too high while racing or what, but I burnt it out, do not know why these keep blowing, I put the B16a swap into my 89 CRX, about three months ago, only problem was I blew a coil. I decided to get the MSD ignition coil, with the MSD ignition cap and wire, I hooked it up correctly, and my car will not start still, and I am getting cel code 15, for ignition control. I looked up under the " search" button for this , I read some other people had this same problem, one guy said it was probably the igniter. HERE IS MY QUESTION, If my igniter is burnt too, can I just upgrade to a SCI MSD ignition, will that bypass the stock igniter ? or is that a whole different thing, sorry if this sounds stupid. Because I was thinking about getting the SCI MSD ignition. PLEASE HELP< I NEED MY CAR TO WORK
No, you will still need the stock ignitor to start and run your car. I would double check all your wiring and grounds too make sure that they are good. You shouldn't be burning components out so quickly. Take care of that CEL, and your problems should cease. If you don't already have one, I highly suggest getting a factory manual. http://www.helminc.com is the place to get one. Best $60 you'll spend on your car.
I found my problem, my car could not start because the MSD external coil will not run unless you have an ignition too. I got the MSD SCI ignition started right up. Igniter was fine after all. LuckallyI have an igniter unit left over from my old motor before I installed the B16a, I guess most internals for honda distributers are the same, they have the exact same numbers, got to love em.
