HPDE course in Chantilly VA?
Stole this off of the nasioc board - but this is the track located in chantilly for the Fairfax Police Academy... Very intersting, and I dont think anyone really knows its there.. Perhaps it is time for me to find some charm?

Won't do for a HPDE, as it surely doesn't have appropriate safety features (buckets, amulance, etc).
Have your most diplomatic local autocross association approach them. Most a-x site guys are used to talking in language site owners want to hear.

The track is being used presently as a HPDE setup for police, including vehicle dynamics classes, high performace driving setup, along with other things. I think a hpde would be alot easier to approach the association with - especially with emphasis on the driver education part - as opposed to a timed setup.. Either way - I am not the one anyone wants approaching anything for approval (I see GK agreeing with me 100%) - but I just wanted to put this out there

(EDIT - more information on the facilities)
The Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy Emergency Vehicle Operations Center, opened in January 1994 and is located at 3725 Stonecroft Boulevard in Chantilly, Virginia. The facility consists of a 1.1 mile high speed track, four observation towers, 1.0 miles of secondary roads, an off road recovery area, and a 125' x 300' oval skid pan with an automatic water system. The facility also has an on site garage, a building which includes two classrooms, instructor office space, a kitchen and restrooms.

We have had exactly zero luck securing the Raleigh Police training center for our autocrosses. Even with a Raleigh city Engineer as our club President a few years ago, we got a nice form letter politely saying "not a chance in hell". Good luck.
I'd think a 1.1 mile course would be kinda like Jefferson Circuit. Neat, different, fun to do once or twice. But after that....kinda...boring perhaps.
Matt<--- after 3 years still finds VIRs 3.25 miles and 22 turns very non-boring...

1.1 mile course = boring, yes
1.1 mile course less than 2 miles from my house = intreguing (especially if this abnormal karting facanation keeps up)

kinda looks like a real boring track to be driving on, in any configuration. seems to be made for exactly its used for, emergency vehicle training, not competitive driving. even if you did get on it, i guarantee itd be pretty boring after the 5th lap.

Hehe, I would never dare tempt fate in Fairfax County since they're so quick to throw people in jail now
(wouldn't look good when I renew my clearances
).

The Washington State Patrol training center hosted a stage of the Olympus Rally at least one year. I get dibbs on an observation tower...

Yeah, having that AutoX shut down seems like a sham, but it is the fascist state of VA we're talking about here. An officer can wield his little hegemonic wand if his discretion determines that the law is breached. Sure, in the court of law, the case would be dropped, however, in the near-term, an officer can shut down anything he wants if he wants to.
On a side note, I don't know why they'd select W. Springfield HS as the location since it's right next to the police station.
