Insurance Co dropping me...can they?
I was recently involved in an accident where I took out my engine with a sewer cover that was sticking out of the ground. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=52722
I was just notified by my insurance company that the adjuster had reported that my car was modified (ie: 1.75inch drop, 205/45/16 tires) and that they are going to drop me because insurance companies do not typically insure drivers with modified cars. Is that a true statement?

uhh, to me thats hard to believe. its like saying i modded my car and im paying for insurance which doesnt insure me. is that the same as not having insurance? well im not sure about his but i think they should pay for whatever damage that sewer cap did to your car modded or not. since youre paying them for collision and comprehensive insurance, if you pay deductable they should repair whatever that was damaged. i think the insurance company is wrong about modded car and not insuring them. my opinion not sure exactly what is true or not.
I dont think car insurance companies cover mods. someone once told me that in order to cover your mods you'd have to have home owners insurance...wierd.
I've heard that in order to cover the mods, you need to just get additional coverage (and higher rates). Like, go to them with the reciepts so they can get the actual value of the mods. Same thing for stereos...
Some insurance companies don't like to do it though. Also, they shouldn't just drop you like that... I'm not sure if that is legal. They should just pay you relatively near what it cost to fix if you were stock.... IMO

they can drop you if its in the policy that they don't cover modified vehicles, depending in some states. i believe they should cover you in this incident, they would just non-renew you. in california i believe they must
give 20-30 days notice of cancellation.

quick question.. not directly related to the topic but you'll see my point once it's answered.. does insurance cover your engine if you hydrolock it with an AEM intake?
in any case why was the manhole sticking up? try and sue the city for money if the insurance doesn't cover, the sewer manhole should not have been sticking far enough up like that to damage your engine.
