AEM shortram installation on 94 GSR.
I just purchased a AEM short ram from Toe Knee(good seller) Iwas reading the installation instructions last night..... now I've installed intakes on 4th gen civics/crx's a few times and it was pretty simple as in remove stock air box install new piping and filter..... now I've never put in an AEM before. Anyways the instructions says to drain a gallon of coolant. Are you serious? now I haven't had a chance to look under the hood yet, but why would you need to do that? Anybody got some tips or better yet a pic showing in detail exactly how you hooked yours up..... I'm sure I can figure it out, but I'm just trying to cut out the guess work.
I installed my AEM CAI on my LS and didnt drain any coolant. I simply took out the air box and the stock piping to the manifold. Then you will remove the resignator which was pretty big. Now you simply install the new piping down to the new filter which is under the splash gard. Easy process that took me about 25 min.

Let me recap, this is a AEM short ram on a GSR.... after looking at it last night I think I may have answered my question. On the stock intake hose there is the breather than connects to the valve cover. attached/mated to this breather line is a water line that goes from the back of the block to the front of the block just under the distributor. I'm pretty sure these are what the rubber hoses that were included in the kit. Can anybody confirm?

Ahhh, those 2 hoses are connected to each other by that metal brakcet, but there is no need to drain the coolant. I have never had to do it in any Honda while adding an intake.
I replaced my stock water hose and breather hose when I put in my CAI. If you end up wanting to replace the stock water hose with the new one then you'll have to drain some coolant. I just used it as a good excuse to flush out my coolant system.
Yeah. Same connections.
I needed to replace the breather hose when I installed my CAI. and I didn't want to have that stock metal bracket that holds both the breather and the water hose floating around by my engine. So I just replaced the water hose so I could get rid of that stock bracket. Gives it more of a clean look I think too. The only problem I had was I didn't drain the coolant before I disconnected one end of the water hose. I got a bunch of coolant on the garage floor. So make sure you drain some first so you don't have to clean up a big puddle of ****.

NP. I don't know how so many other people have never had to replace out their water hose. Did you guys just leave the stock bracket in there? I'm kinda curious.
Well most of the folks that commented above stated that they owned LS's not GSR.... according to the installation instructions this procedure only applies to the 94-2000 GSR's. Maybe that could be the reason. I agree with you though, I wouldn't want some old bracket hanging around my engine either.
when i installed my short ram intake, at first i just left the old breather hose dangling with the new one attached. I got sick of it just sitting there si i dremmeled it off and accidentally cut one of my coolant lines
. Oh well. So then i just replaced all of those hoses that were held by that metal piece. Looks a lot better.

I installed a short ram intake on my GSR and didn't drain any coolant. I didn't really want to take out both hoses, but since the middle section is metal and they are stuck together, I sorta had no choice but to do so. When I swapped the hose out, I just pulled the OEM hose out and already had the other one ready to go on. I just stuck it on as quickly as possible. You won't really loose much coolant when you do this.

I have an LS with an AEM CAI and I didn't have to drain any coolant.
