vx head on dx motor?
my friend pulled his vx motor out of his car. those motors have vtec but its v-tec E (enhanced) i dont have any idea what is different about them so i was just wondering if it would do any good to put the vx head on my d15 block? thanks
One of the main differences in the VX motor was the fact that it used "roller rockers" to cut down on friction, and allow the engine to rev a little higher. This was mainly used to gain better gas mileage. The head flows terribly on this motor, but because of the rollers you could get away with a very aggressive cam. I don't know the specifics as far as if the head will swap, I know the cams and rockers will not though. If you could get a custom cam made and a good port, I bet one of those little motors would SCREAM!
hahaha, I had one of these motors for a couple weeks. I had to run some fish vlaves like on a turbo guys setup, but in reverse because there was too much vaccum at idle (wanted to idle at around 3000). Put a boost gauge on it and it was beyond the limits of it, more than 60 in hg. It also would rattle over 5500. There are little spring followers run around the rocker setup that are not designed to spin high at all. I don't know what the compression works out to, but it has to be pretty high, check out the cylinder head design on the VX. It was fun, but if you rely on the car at all, then don't do it.
