so today i went to a friends house, car won't start. i hear a ticking noise when i tried to start it. friend helps me jump it. the car starts, but it has a hard time starting. it starts everything runs. i drive to the stop sign, as soon as i hit the brakes, the car dies. we jump the car again, as soon as i hit something electrical the car dies. as soon as i turn the lights on it dies. as soon as i turn on a turn signal it dies. what do you think the problem is? i'm about to buy a battery, but does this seem like a battery issue?

sounds more like a problem with your alternator to me

 

if it were the alternator, don't you think the car would just die on its own?? i let it idle for 5 mins hoping to charge the battery again, but it didn't die on its own. i drove up the street around the block just slowly and the car didn't die. and there was no signs of the car dying while driving it to his house or in the past few weeks.

 

It takes more than 5 min to charge a battery.. more like an hour.

Get a new battery.. chances are its old anyway.

 

yea definately. teh battery brace on it is loose, so the battery shakes, my dad said that ruins a battery, so i gonna replace it. thanks. i'll try it

 

I had the same problem yesterday. My battery was just low on water. Filled up with distilled water and it cranked and ran fine.

 

thanks fellas, i just got anew battery and its running again. i was scared it was the alternator, so the dude told me to put in the new battery, start the car, and pull off the negative terminal cable. if the car shuts off then the alternator is shot, but if it runs still then its just the battery. i tested it, and i was happy. alternator is still good. i just put that little tech in there for people to read and see. thanks guys again.
