painting side skirts and moldings
does anyone know if there is a specific way to paint side moldings and more importantly, side skirts because of its textured surface, on a 99-00 civic. i went to a body shop to get an estimate as to how much it was going to cost and i was told that due to the texture of the side skirts that it would not bond. i have seen this done on many cars and to this day, they have yet to crack and peel. i want to due this right the first time. an help is appreciated
you can get them painted but you gotta use like flex additive in the paint so it will flex a bit and also recomend using the plastic cleaner prep instead of wax and grese remover when you clean them before you paint,,,,,,,,, and of course you have to use sealer so tha paint turns out right and that makes it also stick better ......hope this helps u out and good luck,,,,,,,,,,,
oh yeah as for the texture it doesnt show up as much when you get it painted but i recomend sanding most of it off but it will still look smooth if you dont

I'd recommend buying the pre-painted side moldings from the dealer... if I remember correctly, hondaautomotiveparts.com had them fairly cheap. That way you don't have to worry about getting a shoddy paint job for them. If they were Acura parts, I'd tell you to go with Len here on the boards.
dammmmmmmmmmm i dont recomend getting parts from a dealer they cost soo much bank and most likely they wont match either because of where the car is made the paint always turns out different........ so save your money a little man and get them painted it will look hella nice if u do and post some pics after so we can check them out and see how it looks
Actually this might be true because my newer tercel owner friends can't get color keyed bumpers the body shop says no. I asked toyota and they said they sell 3 different bumpers could this be the same case on this too, they sell the stock gray, the OEM gray that can be painted (said it's made different), and the prepainted which is too high in $$$.
my cousin had a white 00 civic ex and when he got into an accident he told the body shop to paint the stock skirts to match the color of the car. that was like 3 years ago and the paints still on there. sorry if that doesnt help, but i tried.
