Got 4k to play with...what would you do?
My girl is getting a 97 CX hatch and is letting me build it while her dad funds it
I am wondering what yall would do to make it the quickest possible on this budget? I have about 4k right up front to swap the engine and mod it out. I will take care of the suspension and body. Figure I can get the swap for 2k or less. Any ideas? I know that this is a total newb question but I am a FI guy. -Ryan

get a jdm h22-eg swap from http://www.hmotorsonline.com get there axles and lsd if u choose. then buy the hcp mounts from http://www.jdmshit.com great sale on those there.
its really not a hard swap. just some minor cutting to fit the tranny.
u can go anywhere from there. suspension, chip there p13, header, exhaust.

well actually if u are going to get the h22... get it from hmotorsonline.com... and they can supply u with axles, LSD tranny, and Hasport mounts (the best mount's that i know of) and it should still only cost u 3g.. and the maybe a little more to have someone swap it for ya.
I'd do B18C1 block with CTR or JDM B16 pistons, and P&P'ed B16 head with ITR/CTR cams. Comptech Icebox, JDM DC, SMSP exhaust. Hondata. That might be more like $4500-$5000 though.
Either that or the H22 sounds good

Hmotorsonline.com is worse than GUDE! At least at GUDE they'll gladly answer your E-mails before they rip you off! I've E-mailed HMO twice about the JDM H22 and they haven't responded yet!
That's not a huge budget to play with in all honesty. Trust me with doing a H22 or any B-series swap you will go over that if you do it right. Getting the swap, shipping, install (do it your self save money), water pump/timing belt/plugs/wires/cap/rotor/oil/filter etc... Plus anything else. Might have a worn clutch. You are not gonna want to leave the car stock, especially the suspension or 13" wheels either blah blah blah. Just things to think about. Any b-series swap would be good because of the bolt-in factor. Now i'm definetley going to have people disagree, but this is what I would do in your situation with your budget.
Buy an LS swap. B18B. Probably cost you around $2K for the complete swap. Spend the rest on I/H/C/E. Clutch & Flywheel. Struts/springs or coil-overs. Integra brakes w/ master cylinder & proportioning valve etc... Maybe upgrade the rotors/pads/lines/fluid while you're at it. Now you have an extremeley well rounded car that you won't kill yourself in because you spent the whole 4K on the motor and now you can't stop and your front end sags down. Then when you get the money find a good deal on a VTEC head and eventually build the motor, maybe a B16 tranny etc.... I just don't like the whole idea of takeing an econobox car and slapping a huge motor in it and calling it a day.
Flame on.

I realize budgets are hard to stick with. (If you only knew about my Inegra) That is just a ballpark #. The H22 sounds good.....Max, your deal sounds sweet but I also wonder how you can toss out a time like that. What is it tuned with? What chassis was it in? Weight? Thanks for the insight so far guys....you have given me ideas.

with 4g's to play with you can go LS/VTEC for cheap. block/head/tranny you could score for 1g if you use the classifieds, recycler.com, etc. Then run CTR cams and pistons. ITR headers, and reprogram the ECU and have money left over. I say go LS/VTEC IMHO.
I'd SWED!
4g eh? find a wrecked CRV and gank the motor from it, apply boost and you're budget is spent. That's if you want an easy fix, otherwise 4g isn't going to cover much more than just a motor and some bolt ons

How can i say this? becuase i have done these swaps.. with one of OUR driver's and a fresh set of 22x13x9 slicks that what they run.. its very simple.. anyone can come buy the swap.. Were using what we have found that works the best, and now were selling it to the public.. does that bother you? Here is a run down of the fastest timeslip with the same setup in a 92 cx... how many different weights can a civic cx or vx be? you take out the back seats, add a carbon fiber hood which almost everyone has.. there you have it..
1.732 60 ft
5.069 330 ft
7.889 1/8 mile
85.80 1/8 mph
12.427 1/4 et
106.11 1/4 mph
Any questions?

If they are building the motor or doing the swap and tuning and say those are reasonable results then hold them to it.
From reading LuckyRacing's post he sounds like he more than knows what he is doing. Being one of the fastest on the streets of SoCal doesn't hurt either.
