Problems with 2-layer headgaskets?
Can someone elaborate on this:

Obviously MAX_CFM and omniman know what they're talking about, but I'd like to hear other people's opinions.
I'm swapping heads soon and was planning on running a Spoon/Mugen 2-layer to bump compression a tad.

i personally like to run thinner headgasket due to the fact that they can be changed back if you change your mind.
if you mill the head or deck the block, it can't be undone. with a headgasket, if
it starts to fail, you can just pull the head and change it. yea it takes time but
you have the choice.
i have seen people use 2-layer spoon/mugen in their daily car without any problem. for the record, i use 1 layer headgasket. but i use copper spray with them. motor has seen over 1 thousand miles (not daily driver) and no
overheating or compression loss. (knock on wood)

I've used a Mugen gasket in the past... I'm back on the stock HG wagon now, and notice 0 difference. I agree that milling the head is a bit of a gamble. Once its gone its gone.. Had issues with that before. I would say get your compression from the pistons first. There isn't really a need for the 2 layer HG unless you're going to re-build frequently.
i been using a 2 layer HG for over a year now, i put about 200-250 miles a week on the car. i have yet to have any problems with it, no leaks, no overheating, etc....

I would, but I just cannot afford that at this time. If I did pistons I'd want to do a 1.8L block, and there just isn't enough $$$ to go around. I'm a huge believer in "doing it right the first time," but I can't do it all at once. As long as the head was off, I thought a upping the compression .2 would just be a way to improve upon the situation.
*shrug* I'll probably just run a 2-layer. I'm only planning on using that setup for a year or so anyway.

the mugen adds .4 cr
i talked with austin who is using that on his itr with 37k miles on the mugen headgasket. he has no problems at all so far. and he just checked his cr the other day, and he was around 210 across the board.

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking with .2 The Spoon raises it by .3 apparently.
