Default getting ready for my paing job in a 3 weeks

i when to maaco to day, they gave me a good price 470 thats includes 2 door jams. i think i should be able to spray the door jams my self at home. i could tape the windows and the stuff and get a spray can out and just do it i do the door jams my self i would be saving 106 bucks. i would love to save that money and . what my questions what supplys will i need to do the job? if the supplys come to be more than 50 bucks , i should just have maaco do it. is they any thing else i should do before i drop my car off . i need to put my bliz front bumper on too. i need to shave my other side molding. what tools will be needed!

thats a good deal, i got mine for 550 including door jams, and color change. as for the preping, just make sure u trust yourself if u plan on taping anything or preping anything on your own.

heres mine if u have any doubts of not going to one day.

As I am told, maaco is usually good at shooting paint although the paint they use isn't the best. The problem is that they put little effort into prepping the car.

BTW, wm5holla I sent you a PM regarding some auto body courses in the somerset area.

ya, i dont think one day paint shops really put effort into painting cars. n most of the time there type of paint looks likk an orange peel type. you can tell its one day paint if u go up close to it, and u can litterally see the orange peel. i compared my paint to my friend that has goten a real paintjob. his paintjob looks flawless. except we found a hair on his car that was stuck underneath the clear coat. i dont know if your paint job is including extra clear coat.

maaco ******* sux.. they use shitty products and just suck at painting.. they suck at prepping, and they dont wet sand the primer or clear to get sand scratches out. if you want a ghetto *** paint job then take it their, just dont expect many looks afterwards..

well you get what u pay for? i dont think any one day paint places do this until you tell th em to which it depends if theyre gona charge for it or they will say they dont do it. i think one day paintjob are for people who just want to paint there car. i just wanted to paint my car, cuz i wasnt really a fan of teal.

Dude can you really expect someone that paints your car for like $200 to wet sand and buff it to. I don't think so. If you wanna just get your car sprayed and you prep it yourself it isn't that bad. There is a few people I know of on this board that has done that. Not everyone can afford to drop like 4k on a paint job.

yah,, thats what i would do, i'd prep the car yourself, then just take it to them to shoot the paint and clear.. do all the wet sanding and buffing yourself.. its a lot more work, but trust me the results will be a lot better than just paying macco to do all the work.. just my opinion

Tools to do what exactly? Paint the door jams? Shave the moldings?

If you're going to paint, you'll need a good sized compressor, spray gun, sand paper, etc. It's not going to be cheap.

If you're going to shave, you can be cheap about it and use filler. But the preferred way is to weld it.

no ron, that's just his girlfriends benz... this kid is nuts, he paid me and my boy 150 bucks last year to SAND his car... thats it... will, why dont you take care of gettin your **** running right and not blowin mad smoke into the air or do that motor swap that you are talking abou forever.. before you do the paint job.. you dont want to **** the nice costly macco paint job up right after u got it done.. and as i told this kid before macco do **** paint jobs... they are usually people just getting into the biz and not very good.. their prep sucks. their paint sucks. their after care sucks... i would only use macco paint job if i was tring to sell one of my cars.... and forget abou having them do body work HAAHAH thats a good one

please dont go to maaco....my 1st car was a 95 cavalier....well u know that pink color they come in?...yea it was that color...anyway i refused to drive it that color so i went to maaco and had them paint it....they do 0 prep....i started gettin scratches and the original color was still under their in perfect condition....then when it was painted i had a new bumper painted...a eurethane bumper they didnt even primer it..they just sprayed it as is....i had chips of paint fallin all all over the place... i wouldnt wish their paintjobs on my worst enemy....if u go to a good body shop u can get their basic respray for the price of maacos "top of the line" spray

hence why i posted and said not to go to maaco...they dont do any prep...drive your car in...and start shootin...they painted my car with my hood closed and unmasked...wherever paint crept in it stayed.....and what im sayin about the bumper chipping is that it should have been primed...they just painted it...i was pullin 6 inch peices of paint off it now on my last car i had a 5k dollar respray and it was better than factory....flawless work and the quality of the paint was amazing

listen to some of these peeps, don't go to maaco...u will just have to get it painted again and then when u take it to get done by a real shop, it is going to be more..just save some more cash and get a good shop to paint. do it right the first time.
