Hey, My wilwood calipers have about 12k on them, and mad brake dust baked/caked on, i was wondering if it would be safe to soak them in parts washer solvent for a while, then clean that off with brake parts cleaner and a brush. i get worried because the pistons are dirty and i know they dont have dust seals. should i contact wilwood for a rebuild?

If they are that bad, then a rebuild is a good idea. They do not have dust seals, so keeping them really clean is imperative. I rotate my tires every two weeks and wash my wheels and Wilwood calipers once a month. 5,ooo miles and no problems.

You'll need the caliper and body seals for the rebuild and perhaps some new pistons if the old ones are scored. It shouldn't cost more than $30 for the seals. I'm not sure on the bore size for the seals, but part #130-2658 is for a 1.38" bore and #130-2655 is for a 1.75" bore. Body seals are #210-2582, 4 pk. of bleeders is #220-0627 and a 10 pk. of pad cotter pins is #180-0056.

i called wilwood and they told me that all i would need to replace were the main seals behind the pistons, (bore seal i am guessing) so now i need to determine what bore size i have, then he told me that he had no instructions because it was a easy rebuild. i'll attempt this and let you know how it goes. Thanks!
