Default Thank goodness for the bypass valve on the CAI

about 6" of rain in a few hours (while I was outside). I was down by OSU where most of the roads are kind of old and the drainage isn't the best.

I've driven in heavy rain where the gutters and sidewalks flood, but I could always just drive around it in the middle of the road.... not yesterday!

The damn roads were so flooded I know I was submerging the filter head of my AEM CAI...

I was a bit nervous, but everything turned out ok

Just figured I put this out there because I know how often people ask how safe the CAI are and or if they should get the bypass valve for them.....

Are you kidding about rain in summer? It's a nice, sunny, 78 degrees here in SoCal. not a rain cloud in sight . Sorry but just wanted to shine some sunlight on your rainy day haha.

bah, what do you know..
Supposedly the bypass valve takes away a little power, but it seems to be good insurance.. It's been raining/downpouring like a bitch on and off here in shithole NJ.
I might get an Icebox in the future..

Glad to hear you didn't damage your engine. I prefer the stock airbox, myself.

We sure could use some rain over here. It's been a while, and, par for the course, the temps are in the triple digits and will probably remain that way throughout August.

Personally I'd never put the bypass on it, even if i lived where it rained. Should just look into a 2 piece intake that you can convert to short ram or buy a short ram alone.
Plus, from what I've seen on a couple ITRs is the stock airbox doing better than an AEM CAI even w/o the bypass

thanks for the input, but I have what I have and was where I was....

just wanted to let you guys know how the bypass worked, but after I get married and get through paying off my house, buy my beater, etc, etc, etc, then I'll get another intake.... oh no because then I'll have a beater that I'll floor it when I see really big flooded areas.

How did your car feel with the filter under water? Did you even try to apply gas?

I wanted to get the hell out of the flood, but the people in front of me were perfectly content on just crawling threw it so I applied little gas, but no I could feel anything. It was raining so hard that I couldn't really hear anything either though.

Won't change a thing. California's state gov't was an f'ed-up mess long before Davis.

It's a problem of extremes. You've got whackos on the far left and dummies on the far right, with very few inbetween.

I have seen too many threads of "HYDROLOCKED MY ENGINE" Even with the Bypass to even be phased by this FLUKE IMO.

Glad you didn't damage your engine, but Hey how much does an engine cost to replace or Fix if water damage does occur?

Is the 5-6 Hp you gain from the AEM CAI really worth it? AEM CAI is all about NOISE.

It makes a lot of Noise in VTEC so you THINK you are going faster and getting more power over other worthy and LESS risky alternatives. I am running one on my teg W/O bypass and to tell you the truth it is an improvement over Stock BUT I like my short ram on my Civic better. I mean I don't see a significant Difference between the two but the SHORT RAM with CAB (Cold Air Box my own creation) let me have more peace of mind. I am pulling Air directly from the Front bumper.

AEM is better than nothing but there are certainly many better Alternatives
