Default ???? ABOUT doing JDM front conversion

O.K. So I just got done ehlping my mom and dad move into their new home ( which is hella nice by the way ) and I didn't feel like driving home since I had been up since 6am moving boxes and crap so I spent the night at their new house. Well I wake up the next moring... as I'm walking up to my EF I see what appears to be alittle ding. in the front fender. As I get closer the dinge gets worse and worse till I'm right at it and I let out a big F*%$#@#. Walking back and forth pissed as hell since there was NO note on my car and a very big amount of damage done I was about to flip out when my new neighbor walks out of his house.
He says to me is this your car. I reply yes do you have any idea what happened or did you see anyone hit it. His reply is " Well my wife called me this moring from church and said she believes she hit your car " I reply but still kind of raged " Yup thats what it looks like " he said just get a estimate and he'll coveer the damages. I had to pull the fender out by hand since my car is lowered and if I would have just droven off I would have cut up my tires. So now I have enough do do basicly what ever I want to me front end. Now I HATE body kits and like my cars stock look so I was thinking about doing a JDM front end. BUT I hear you have to cut and weld alot of stuff where before I thought all you had to do was re-weld the new radiator support. So Whats all invovled in doing a JDM front end on EF's when you buy the conversion.

Absolutly no welding at all. All parts bolt on from a JDM EF. The upper rad support has to be swapped out for the JDM counterpart. It is as simple as 6 10mm bolts. Everything else is a bolt on affair also.

its a pretty easy install, but there is some slight modifications involved. JDM or USDM rad support.. it doesnt matter.. the SiR hood is different than JDM, because when you mount the hood latch to the hood, it doesnt mount up to the rad support to close the hood.

it's not hard to do, im getting ready to do this on my CRX. What you have to do is either move the rad support forward or moving the hood latch backward.

for the rad support, ive seen someoone use washers to shim it forward (i wouldn't do that), or cut and bend and reweld the rad support so its forward.

Or you can cut into the hood and make new holes for the latch to mount to (this is what i think im gonna do) so it will move the latch back to meet with the rad support. it looks like it will be pretty easy. i have some pics at home, PM/IM/Email me if you want me to send them to you.

*FYI.. only difference from JDM rad support and USDM is a hole in the JDM for how they ran the stock intake piping. good luck

oopss.. i typed it wrong.. SiR is different from USDM.. my apologies

sorry.. SiR is JDM.. which is different than a USDM. SiR hood bumps UP, not down like a USDM (adding clearance for engine)

if you were going rhd then you would have to do some welding of the firewall....

Don't forget to factor in the body work that you might need. The jdm ef front end conversions are often in very poor shape and require hours of body work to fix.

Davep: very true.. its used parts, so dents and such should be assumed..

krissigsrcrx: if you want to get a JDM conv.. i would recommend http://www.hmotorsonline.com

thats where i got mine.. Comes with everything: SiR Hood, Fenders with side markers, headlights, Corner lights, bumper cover with bumper lights, and Rad support, costed me around 950 shipped but i live in MD.. so it was a big shipping charge. my stuff was in pretty good shape.. my fenders were the roughest pieces, but i wasnt using them

I second that. Get it, much better than a body kit.

Ok, lets see if I understand correctly.
The only difference is the upper radiator support. I swap that out with a JDM one and JDM SIR lights or one piece JDM lights will fit properly. Then also get an SIR hood. Will my regular CF hood then become useless or can still I use it? Thanks for any and all replies.

O.K. Luckly the shop I'm a mechanic at has a body shop and I just got the estimate and gavce it to the NEW neighbors... $950.00 smackers. Most of the charge is labor but since I do all my own work and labor I'll only be spending half the money on parts. It's nice to only know someone for 24 hours and then hit them a almost a $1,000 bill but then again the women should have been paying attention when backing up. I'm kind of pissed cause my 91' Civic HB is in MINT condition and this is the first chase. I bought the car completely stock and it was in Great shape body and motor wise but the stock motor is long gone but it looks stock outside.
Who's ever CR-X that is VERY nice... I'm going to re-paint my car soon and I'm painting it Gun metal Gray with the JDM front end it should look sweet. BUT I just bought a DOHC Si-R Carbon Fiber hood not too long ago cause I was tired of my B series hitting my hood. Can I re-use the CF hood with the new front end. If not I don't mind cause I can sell it hella quick and haven't had it long enough to get attached. Also thanks for the info. about the condition of the front ends I have heard the same stories. Thanks

It's my CRX, a very rare pewter grey SiR with glass roof and LSD/ABS.

Want the paint code?

See more pics in my sig, will be uploading more soon.

Thanks for the compliments,

John

nope... the rad support is not the only difference from a JDM front. Here are the differences(this is all based on original factory parts from both cars):

Fenders: USDM= NO sidemarkers, JDM= Sidemarker lenses
Headlights/Corner Lights: USDM= Amber sides on the corner lights and Glass headlights, JDM= Clear corners, Plastic Headlights and the SiR headlights are WIDER than USDM.
Hood: USDM= middle section dips DOWN, JDM= middle section bumps up (NO lump on the driver side like a ZC hood)
Front bumper: USDM= shaped to fit USDM headlights and smaller bumper lights, JDM = shaped to fit the wider SiR headlights, and has larger cutout for the wrap around bumper lights.
Rad Support: Both are shaped identical to each other except for how the factory intake piping was ran. USDM it was above the radiator, JDM was in that hole in the rad support.

as far as headlights.. when you get a JDM kit, that comes with SiR headlights. SiR headlights are the ONLY headlights that are wider on a CRX. JDM ZC headlights are the same size as USDM, so a ZC hood, or any carbon fiber hood will work with ZC or USDM headlights, not SiR... and i believe one pieces are still just as wide as ZC/USDM lights (but im not sure about the integra one pieces). So your CF hood wont work with the new headlights and front end.

As far as condition of my front end. it was in pretty good shape. Of course it will need some work.. its used part. My hoods in pretty good shape, some dents, but not a lot. My front bumper cover is in great shape, just need to paint that. My Fenders however were kinda beat up, but i wasnt using them, so it didnt matter to me.

Let me know if i answered all your questions ok.

i sold my stock hood for 100$ and my stock headlights for 50$.. i paid 100$ for my sir hood shipped and i think 100 for the jdm headlights+jdm corners. you can make the hood bolt without the jdm rad support. so.. for 50$ +/- a few, i got a front end jdm conversion.. just wish the b16 came with it
