Default White Smoke...help!

My friend's car just started smoking up alot. All the smoke is coming out the exhaust and its all white. We checked the spark plugs...and theres a pretty good amount of oil in there. I told him to get some new O-Rings asap. But could that be the reason why its smoking alot? I hope its not the piston rings or something. Anyways has that happen to anyone before...spark plugs filled with oil = white smoke out of exhaust? Well we'll find out tommorro and see if it still smokes after we put new o-rings...(I hope it doesn't ). Later.

hmmm, well it's probably burning coolant. Most likely a head gasket that went. Did you take off the oil cap and take a peak inside? Is the oil milky? Try a compression test.

Usually white smoke means coolant is being burned though...

ok, so we change the o-rings. and yes..there is still hella white smoke coming out of the exhaust but no more oil on the spark plugs. so yea...the headgasket is probably gone...also will having a blown headgasket make the engine overheat? cause his engine overheats really fast.

Whatever you do, DON'T DRIVE IT!!!! Please!! Don't let that engine overheat at ALL, you will warp your block and/or your head! Unless you wanna do a swap real soon, don't go anywhere in that car.

your engine is overheating really fast because the coolant that normally circulates through your block is instead leaking into the cylinders and being burned along with the normal mixture of fuel and air, so in short, your burning off your coolant quick. If this is indeed the case, your coolant level should be a lot lower than normal; the head gasket is a seal between those coolant lines and your cylinders, and yes, you need to replace it. Good luck!

Will you be doing this by yourselves or will you have a shop take care of it?

how much do shops usually charge? if the price is reasonable then i guess he'll get it done at a shop. but if its overpriced i guess were gonna have to do it ourselves. he wants to find a used D16Y8 head and do a mini-me and use the Y8 HG too for higher CR.

the y8 headgasket isnt any thinner than the z6, i checked, and im running a y8, but mostly because they are better than the a6 gaskets. I have a z6 head on mine. Dont let a shop do it. The hardest part of the whole thing is getting the old gasket off, But i find with a rotozip and the zipmate, along with a red pad in the kit, it takes it right of without damageing the surface.
