d series tranny question?
Will any tranny off of any d series engine fit on any other dseries engine? i have a 88 crx with a sohc zc engine and i am goin to put in a tranny from a 93 civic si with a d16z6... will this work ok? let me know as soon as possible as i am looking to buy tommorrow... thanks.... Jay
Hey man, Honda parts are kinda scarce in NW Ark huh? Since yours is an 88, if you put an 89-91 tranny on there, you'll have to have the clutch and tranny from the 89-91 also. The 88 has 21 splines and the 89-91 has 20. If you can't get ahold of anyone about a tranny, I have a couple numbers for you to call, PM me. They are both in Springdale though.... Not too far.
Oh and by the way, I would suggest an Si, but I have a DX that I may have for sale after a while. I bought it on Sunday, but have an Si with a bad case lined up, but I have no clue when I'm going to get it. Keep in touch with me if you still need it after a while.

I wouldn't pay that much unless it's freshly rebuilt with a waranty.
I paid 100 for my si tranny, and a friend of mine has a shop and they can get brand new (well, rebuilt w/ all new parts) for less than 500.
What's wrong with your tranny? unless the case is cracked you could probably rebuild yours. a lot of people get nervous about working on trannies, but it's a lot easier than you might think. IMO easier than rebuilding an engine.

so true...rebuilding an engine requires a lot more care and is much more tedious.

i dont know... it makes some rattling noises and it blows tranny fluid out... gets on the clutch and is making it slip... just put in the new clutch and the tranny got really bad and was leaking a lot... slippin like crazy.... how much do you think to have it rebuilt>?
probably just need to replace the input shaft bearing.
the bearing itself is about $7.00
If you befriend a local tranny shop mechanic, you may be able to get him to order you a rebuild kit. I got a complete kit with all new bearings, seals, and syncros for less than $200.00

i have question for everybody ok i got the d16z6 and im getting the a clutch and flywheel package from clutchcity but will the flywheel from a 91 civic fit on the d16z6 i know i have to use the same year clutch as the tranny but not sure on the flywheel thanks!!
the flywheel is the same from 90-2001 so if your tranny is a 90-91, you can get any flywheel from 90-01.
if your tranny is an 89, get the 90-91 clutch and the 90-01 flywheel. it will fit if you get them all. If you're getting the smaller 89 clutch, you'll need the 88-89 flywheel.
if your tranny is an 88, you can use a 90-91 pressure plate and 90-01 flywheel if you use an 88 accord clutch disk. If your using the smaller 88 civic clutch and PP, you'll need the 88-89 flywheel.
