Welcome back.
It could be corrosion on the battery terminals has migrated to the battery cables (if there was a big buildup of gunk on the terminals).

Sounds like a bad battery and not a bad alternator... he said it's fine as long as it's running, but it won't hold a charge... which means dead battery.

did anyone who recommended a new battery actually read the entire first post? he has already tried 2 other batteries and gotten the same result.
Anyways I also say that it sounds like your alternator is the problem

Check the battery voltage while the car is running - most likely the alternator isn't charging... You'd be suprised how long a car can run w/ a dead alternator and a jump start

I had the same problem after the winter, what I did might be stupid but it works...I just keep on driving my car after a jump-start, it took me about 3 nights for doing that(1-2hrs everynight) and everything back to normal after that.
I know it is kind of stupid but it still fun to drive around with my R.
( but make sure don't turn off your car when you stop for a coffee or something else.)
