Best Autocross Tire
Hi all.
I've got a '94 Del Sol VTEC. I'm putting some 16x7's on it, and need tire size recommendations.
I need a tire for street and track. I'm thinking about:
1. Falken Azenis 215/45/16
2. Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 205/40/16 or 205/45/16
I'd like to get the Azenis ideally, but I'm unsure if they'll rub in hard turns on an already dropped car. Unfortunately this is the closest Falken comes to the size I need.
If that won't work, I'd like to hear opinions about 40 vs. 45 series tires on 16's for civics.
Any sizes/tire recommendations?

if they will rub all depends on your camber. you could get away with them if you have a good bit of negative camber all around. which honestly is great for the azenis. i have about -2.5 degrees in front and -1.5 in the rear lowered 2.75 front and 2.25 rear and i dont rub. but i also have 15 in rims with 205 tires. so i really dont know with the 16's and 215
Thanks, Jeremy..
The car is probably dropped 2 - 2.5 inches. I have 205/40/17's right now and they do fine... just wondering about the extra centimeter of width, although I suppose it's not all that much.

true but the azenis's are slightly wider than most other tires in their size. i compared my 205's to my old nitto 205's and there was a big difference. they are actually about the same with as my brothers 215 yoko's on his accord

I just got Yokohama AVS ES100's in a 195/50/15 and I have more grip than I did with the Kumho 712's in a 205/50/15.
Less tire, more grip. Good stuff.

for 16's i really dont know, i love my 50 seris on my 15's. the azenis has a very stiff sidewall so you dont need to go extremely low pro for less tire roll. id say to go with the 45 seris unless you are really worried about rubbing

The Kumhos are pretty good tires, but nowhere close to the Azenis for autocross. You should be okay with the 215/45-16. Lots of ITR guys run them with no problems.
You guys are forgetting a very important factor in the fitment - OFFSET. What offset are your wheels? If they're +35, they'll definitely rub the fenders, +40 should be good (may have to roll the fenders if Azenis are extra wide), +45 you are getting close to the inner fender and may rub with that width.
