Help -- Emissions Up 5,000%!
My coworker's '92 Civic DX (1.5L, 16 valve) just failed the CO portion of the emissions test. Essentially, all 3 pollutants went up 50 times their previous readings from 2 years ago. Also, the CO2 went up 10 times its previous reading.
He has already replaced the air filter, PCV valve, spark plugs, oil and filter.
The car has about 119,000 miles on it, is stock, with all routine maintenance performed per Honda's schedule.
The following sensors have been tested: TPS, O2, IAC valve. All check within specs.
The results of the test were as follows:
[HC/CO/NOx/CO2] NOTE: All readings in grams/mile (GPM)
Previous (2 years ago): 0.0218 / 0.3834 / 0.0264 / 23.6364
Current (2 days ago) : 0.5304 / 21.1999 / 1.4076 / 259.1708
Max. Allowed Level : 1.000 / 20.0000 / 2.2000 / N/A
The above testing was done at a Maryland MVA Emissions Test Station
As you can see, all levels are up, but the only one that is actually over the limit is the CO.
Any help will be greatly Appreciated!

go to the autoparts store and pick up a bottle a Guaranteed to Pass, i tried it and it worked, plus theres a money back guarantee, you can't lose.
Thanks for the tip. I think he would prefer to fix the underlying problem though.
Any ideas as to what would cause emissions to go up so dramatically on a stock Civic? Does this suggest cat failure?
The 'tips' the emissions station provided suggested that the car might be running rich, but it seems strange that the emissions would go up so dramatically, especially without a corresponding decrease in fuel mileage and/or driveability. According to my coworker, the car is running great.

Sounds like a CAT/O2 sensor problem to me!

Yeah I was thinking cat also. It will show up being rich if your cat isnt working right cause it also helps in burning up the fuel that didnt burn in the combustion chamber.
