Default mini me swap done...

and now i have one problem. my car over heats when i get on it. if i drive normal with out going over 4k then it wont overheat

i am throwing no codes.
using the 91 dx radiator with both fans (only one works)
d15 block with y8 head and 4th gen si intake manifold
havent activated vtec yet
replaced thermostat and water pump is good
coolant lines get hot as the car warms up

should i get a better radiator?

Hhmmm that sounds really strange. My one fan doesn't even work, and I only overheated once in 95* weather sitting at a stoplight for about 5 minutes. Does it spew coolant everywhere or does your guage just read in the red?

Is the engine detonating? I've always heard of problems with timing on mini-me swaps. I don't quite think that would over heat the engine, but it will run a lot hotter.

so timing would make it run hot. also i dont want to buy a new head gasket when put the head back on. because i only used it once but never ran the engine more than 3 minutes. someone said that the gasket is done because i took apart my head again. should i buy a new gasket?

update: the car drives fine with the reused head gasket, but the tempature rises when i go over 4k. if it rises a little then i can make it go back down by flooring it. this only works a couple of times before it completly overheats. and when it over heats the over flow tank gets all crazy. and i can hear a hissing coming out of the head gasket.

Wait wait WAIT!!! you REUSED your old headgasket!?!? Thats insane, it probably blew right way, and your losing coolant throguht that into your cylinders and burnign it off, are you smoking t all.

Wait, reread, you used it for abotu 3 minutes, i dunno, i think once you torque it, its useless, but maybe not. Mine heats up quicker and will actually go up at the track, but im running real lean right now, and will have detonation every once in a while.

My buddies did the same thing, and it turned out to be his radiator was all clogged up. Wierd, and his was a 95 woith almsot 200,000 miles on it. Dang pizza boys.

sorry to say but you have to start over again. Your headgasket is more than likely BLOWN

you can use the old head gasket if you enjoy adding oil from a leaking head gasket and smell it burning off into the exhaust. Trust me.. I've done this before

SOMEHOW... on my h23a my dad had the gasket flipped upside down.. i torqed it down.. started it. It started leaking almost right away coolant/oil so i shut down the engine. pulled the head.. saw it was on wrong and flipped it. It didnt leak as much but it still leaked. (was a new gasket)

but yeah.. point is.. dont reuse old gaskets.. If youl could reuse old/used stuff who would need Autozone jk
