Default next best mod?

Guys,

Currently my 98 GSR has custom CAI and Apex WS exhaust. I also have suspension mods but am done with suspension stuff for now. What would be the next best power mod? I know most go with I/H/E but do headers really make a difference? Maybe I should go for ITR cams? What's your opinion?

Thanks!

You will feel a slight difference with a header, but nothing really major. You should first figure out what your hp goals and routes are, then decide on your next mod. You really can't go wrong with ITR cams and tuned cam gears/vtec point.

How much should I expect to spend on ITR cams and cam gears? is it necessary to get the cam gears? Can I just put the cams in and nothing else? if i go for cam gears how much would it cost me to get them tuned?

I'm thinking ITR cams will make my transition from nonvtec to vtec more pronounced right? what i mean is right now you really can't tell too easily when the car switches over at vtec point. I would like to be able to notice a change :D kinda like the prelude (more aggressive switchover)...will the ITR cams do that?

Thanks!

go for either some new cams gears or a ligthened flywheel/new cluth kit. you want to be able to have a good foundation to put your power to the road.

actually I already have an ITR clutch...regular flywheel...i think flywheel route is too expensive (including the labor)....

i think i'll be shopping for cams soon :D

i dunno about cams before headers... (maybe i'm old fashioned)
i first did int+exh then went back for header(dc 4-2-1). there was a noticeable difference, more low end torque for one. of course you would notice a diff. with cams too(!). (of course) it depends a lot on your budget. as far as cams i would save up for int+exh+cam gears all at once instead of dropping in some intake only like some do. also try to think long term about how hardcore you want to go to avoid swapping out cams for diff ones (e.g. jun, toda) down the road. one more cam thing: ask around and consider doing CTR int + ITR exh vs. ITR+ITR. CTR is slightly more aggressive but some don't think it's worth the price diff. (roughly $100, i've heard).

yeah if I were you just save up to get all at once so you can dyno tune. Good luck.

ITR cams will run about 500 if you find a good deal, and cam gears should be around 200. You can just get the cams, but you won't gain nearly as much power. The install and tune is kinda pricey, you'll have to save up. I think you will need about 900 at least to get everything done, + money for a vtec controller. You might want to consider a header before you get the cams/tune tho. Kinda pricey huh!

Yes! Vtec will be very audible. I can't really hear my car hit vtec, but I listen to a buddy's GSR with ITR cams, and it sounds COOOL

Scooby, Definitelt get the header first. What a proper header does is creates a Vacuum behind the exhaust gases the are exiting and as a result will actually pull more air in. More Airflow= more power. As far as cams go, id you were to buy something more then ITR cams, to get the full potential, you will have to use a 2.5"collector like a JDM ITR 4-1. After these mods it is wise to but some sort of Air-fuel Controller like a V-AFC or Shogun power tuner. The shogun allows you to adjust the redline withouit sending your ECU out for reprogramming. When installing cams like this it is wise to move your Vtec crossover point up to say 5500. I then would suggest OB TB and skunk2 intake manifold. As a final step DYNO TUNE
