They are? I could have sworn I have used standard sockets many times.

well, they are all technically metric. unless someone has changed a fastener here and there. also, some standard sockets and wrenches will work on metric stuff.

yep, I had to do this when I kept breaking 1/2" drive rachets and breaker bars on my axle nut. We wanted to try a 3/4" drive rachet but didn't have a 36mm socket so I think we used a 1 7/16" socket.

If you don't have the metric size you need, take that metric size and divide it by 25.4 and that will give you the standard equivilant. Then find the standard socket thats closest to that number and see if it will work. Some might be to tight and some might be to loose so always test it to make sure it fits snug.

if its a tad larger than the metric, it may work in undoing the bolt if it goes on/off easily, but it increases the risk of damaging the head (e.g. stripping) if its a stubborn bolt.

5/16"-------->8mm
7/16"-------->11mm
1/2"---------->13mm
9/16"-------->14mm
5/8"---------->16mm
11/16"------->17mm
3/4"---------->19mm
13/16"------->21mm
7/8"---------->22mm
15/16"------->24mm

5/16 and 5/8 are almost the exact same as 8mm and 16mm. The rest is close enough if you use quality 6 pt. sockets.

And to answer the original question...Yes, Honda is like the rest of the world, they use the metric system. We're stubborn here in the states (or ignorant, depends on how you look at it).
